✨Maintaining Curly Ends Achieving and maintaining curly ends for my locs happened quite by accident! After installing my locs, the ends were left loose, primarily to provide a grip during the locking process. Since I love the curly look, I made a conscious effort to keep the curls intact. Each time I washed my hair, I used a curl-forming brush to style the ends, preventing them from locking up completely and maintaining the desired curly appearance. ✨Washing My Hair At the beginning of my hair journey, I washed my hair frequently because I had severe dermatitis. Even with my hair moisturized, my scalp would still be irritated and flaky. However, now that my locs have matured and my scalp has healed from the dermatitis, I can go as long as two weeks between washes. Scalp health is crucial for the growth of your locs, so ensure you are taking care of your scalp as well as the individual locs. ✨Using Oils Having struggled with seborrheic dermatitis, I avoided using oils for a long time. Oils would feed the fungus on my scalp, worsening the flakiness and itchiness. Oils like castor oil, olive oil, and rosemary oil never worked for me. After washing my hair, it would get oily within a few days, so I relied on the natural moisture my scalp produced. Now that my scalp is healed, I use a light oil on my scalp during wash days. I only apply it once and don’t reapply until the next wash day. While I can offer advice based on my experiences, remember that what works for me may not work for you. I’m always here to provide tips you can try, but everyone’s hair journey is unique. Yesterday I hit a microlocs milestone and I’m officially 6 months loc’d! 💁🏾‍♀️🎉 Time really flies when you’re having fun. I fall more in love with my microlocs every day.
