Now that the snow is melting, ticks are back in full force. Ticks can be large, but they can also be teeny tiny like these guys in the video. Ticks that are tiny like these are more likely to go unnoticed on the body and pose danger for tick borne illnesses. Before you say that, “we only have big ticks where I live...” I promise you, that if you have large ticks - you also have these little ones. These are nymph ticks aka baby ticks. All ticks go through this stage of life. It is more likely that you’ve never noticed them because they are so tiny. Ticks are endemic to our area of New York and majority of the north east. Ticks can carry many different diseases including Lyme disease which can be debilitating. So how the heck do we stay safe with all of these ticks around: We (humans) wear pants with crew height socks or higher and spray ourselves with @cedarcide. The dogs are both on Bravecto and receive the Lyme vaccine yearly. My dogs also have bloodwork done with a 4Dx test completed with screens for Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasma, & Ehrlichia. (the last 3 in that list are tick borne) We also use @cedarcide tickshield on the dogs and this year we are trying @alzoo_vet tick/ flea powder to see if that helps. We check our dogs and ourselves very thoroughly after every time we are in heavily wooded areas. For us that means multiple times a day. If ticks are latched on we remove them as soon as we see them using a tick key. These smaller ones are much trickier to remove. We have seen many more deer aka “tick hotels” in our area than we have in years before which we believe are attributing to the massive increase in tick prevalence. *This post is not an invitation to criticize our use of prevention methods. I personally do not love Bravecto, but we have tried a few natural methods and none have worked well... one even messed with Reggie’s kidneys. Any negative comments about prevention will be removed. You are free to utilize whichever type of prevention you’d like for your own pet(s), but you do not get to choose what I do with my own.*

TICKS & hiking. Obviously it’s extremely important to check yourself and pets after being out walking/ hiking for ticks especially in hotspot areas like Kerry. My tick was so small my tick remover wouldn’t even get near it! I know how important it is to check for ticks and remove them carefully, but I had no idea it’s recommended (obviously not forced just recommended) to get tablets and a possible test in 3-4 weeks. 😳 ^* even though I spotted mine within a few hours! This is not to scare anyone at all & don’t let it put you off the outdoors, but if you’re out hiking just check yourself and keep an eye on your skin. They’re easily missed! #ticks #thehikelife

Most people have never heard of the Lone Star Tick... but this tiny parasite can completely change the way your body reacts to food. It’s linked to a condition called Alpha-gal Syndrome, a delayed allergic reaction to red meat and animal products. Here’s what actually happens: When the tick bites you, it transfers a sugar molecule called alpha-gal into your body. Your immune system flags it as a threat...and now every time you eat foods containing that molecule (like beef, pork, or lamb), your body reacts like it’s under attack. Symptoms can show up 3 to 6 hours after eating, which makes it harder to connect the dots. Common symptoms include: • Hives or itchy skin • Swelling of lips, face, or throat • Stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea • Fatigue or dizziness • In severe cases: anaphylaxis (life-threatening) Some people also react to: • Dairy products • Gelatin • Even certain medications derived from animal sources And yes... this condition has been rising, especially in parts of the U.S. where the tick is spreading. If you’ve ever had “random” reactions to meat...this might be something worth looking into. Save this so you don’t ignore the signs. #alphagalsyndrome #lonestartick #lymedisease #billgates #alphagalallergy

This is your reminder: tick season is here, and they’re not holding back. A tick can latch on without you feeling a thing, and the longer it feeds, the higher the risk of disease transmission. Check yourself every single day if you’re spending time outdoors. Seriously, your future self will thank you. Think all ticks are the same? Think again. 🪵 Wood ticks are larger and less likely to carry Lyme disease, but can transmit others. 🦌 Deer ticks? Tiny, sneaky, and known carriers of Lyme. #tick #tickseason #ticks #outdooreducation #tickawareness #outdoorskills #landbased #lymeawareness #spring #bugseason #outdoors #campingseason #backcountry #backcountrycamping #bushlife #manitoba

Don't let these tiny invaders catch you off guard! 💥Thanks to our changing climate, ticks are becoming a year-round concern in 🇩🇪.   Medical researchers say that there is a risk of Lyme disease – a tick-borne  infection - all over Germany, with the highest risks in the eastern and southern parts, and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) mainly in the south and some eastern states. But ticks can be found anywhere with plants 🌳🍃– maybe even in your own backyard! 😱 Stay protected:  • Wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors. 👖 • Do a thorough tick check after spending time outside. 🧐 • Remove any ticks promptly and correctly with tweezers.  Do you have any other tip to add?  #meetthegermans #ticksafety #health #tbe #lyme
