Tiny Tim tomato plants are a type of dwarf or miniature heirloom tomato. The plants usually grow from 12-18 inches tall and they don’t take so much space. They are determinate tomato variety that grows to a fixed mature fruit for a short time. They are referred to as bush tomatoes so pruning is not necessary. Because of this, they are great grown indoors. I’ve grown indeterminate tomatoes in the past and it grew so high and wild and it was hard to manage. So I have this Tiny Tim for the second time and so far it is growing well. I also have an indeterminate variety but I have to make sure to prune, remove the suckers and have a cage for it… that being said you can grow both indoors but you have to be aware of the pros and cons… Knowing this which variety would you grow? Planting a tomato in a pot 🪴🍅 🪴 Start with a variety of tomato that naturally grows to be very short. My favorite is Tiny Tim tomato, which is an heirloom dwarf variety. This kind of tomato plant makes sweet little cherry tomatoes and is perfect for growing in a planter pot on the patio. 👩‍🌾 Choose a planter! Dwarf tomatoes like Tiny Tim can be grown in a 6”-12” pot like this. Make sure it has a drainage hole! Regular-sized tomato plants need much larger pots. I like to grow my tomatoes in 15-gallon grow bags. 🌱 Container-grown tomatoes need great potting mix! I like mixes that have quite a bit of coco coir for bulk plus some perlite for air and easy drainage. 💡 Dwarf and grafted tomato plants should be planted in the pot at the same soil level as the little plastic planter from the garden center. Regular tomato plants can be planted 6” deeper (just be sure to pull off the leaves before burying the bottom portion of the stem). 👇 Firm down the soil gently. Water the plant thoroughly afterwards. This will help the soil settle. This is the time to check to make sure the drainage hole is working! The water should drain down nicely into the soil. Excess water should drain out the bottom of the planter so that there are also some air pockets in the soil (you don’t want a muddy mess). #containergardening #gardening

Detta tomatår gick fort. Tomat fröna som jag odlade i år var. Tiny Tim, Gold Currant, Gardens Delight, Black Cherry och Moneymaker. Jag sådde dessa den 7 mars och de grodde snabbt. Redan den 25 April så blev tomat plantorna omplanterade i mjölkkartonger. Vilket var perfekt att använd. Men glöm ej att göra hål i botten. Brukar du också odla i mjölkpaket? Tiny Tim var bland dom första tomatsorterna att mogna. Jag rekommenderar verkligen Tiny Tim den gav mig mycket skörd. Detta tomatår blev sämre än förra året därför att det har varit kallare.
