If you asked me how to spend the perfect day in Newcastle, this is what I’d suggest. 🖤 Start at Tiny, Tiny, a specaility coffee shop serving up delicious breakfasts in one of the most beautiful spaces in the city 🤍 Then head to two of what I think are Newcastle’s best hidden gems, The Lit and Phil is the largest independent library outside London, and I guarantee it will take your breath away. 🖤 It’s then just a 4 minute walk down the road to see the Iron Man. This giant sculpture is actually a puppet used in the Iron Man musical by The Who’s guitartist Pete Townsend hidden away in the courtyard of the Arts Centre, and he’s such a hidden gem that loads of locals don’t even know he’s there. 🤍 If coffee fuels your adventures, head to Laneway for a coffee. It happens to be on High Bridge, which I personally think is one of the prettiest streets in the city. 🖤 Then make your way to Ouseburn, via the Quayside. I never have an agenda when I go to Ouseburn, it’s the dream spot to wander with street art, the city farm and loads of bars and coffee shops but definitely make sure you head to Biblelot Nook, a huge vintage furniture and homeware store hidden in the arches, and Lime Street where you’ll find a great collection of indie shops 🤍 End the day back in the city centre for a few drinks at some of my favourite spots. Black’s Corner in Fenwick for cheese and wine or if cocktails are more your thing a visit to Mother Mercy Cafe and Vampire Rabbit are the ideal spots to end your day. ad | I take planning a day to myself VERY seriously. My requirements are simple - independent coffee, great food and interesting little shops to mooch around - and what better place to do that Newcastle with @flixbus ! Here’s how I spent a perfect day (with an under £15 return ticket purchased on the FlixBus app) - A matcha stop inside Newcastle City Library at @bookclubcoffeencl, followed by brunch at @tiny_tiny_newcastle (obvs for bacon stottie - a North East classic). Then wandering through the historic streets around High Bridge with coffee from @lanewaycoffeeco, before popping into the fascinating Lit & Phil library (and a sweet treat after from @sorcerercoffee) A sunny walk along the Quayside next - I would usually cross the Millennium Bridge to the Baltic but it was closed the day I visited! Then over to Ouseburn for a good rummage and explore of the indie shops:�@flaura_rose_ouseburn�@thefindouseburn�@bibelotnook�@wearefleacircus Before dinner at @kilnouseburn and hopping on the FlixBus back to Edinburgh (thankful for the comfy seats, free wifi and USB chargers!). Newcastle was such a great city to spend a weekend in! It had fun things to do, speakeasy bars, historic architecture and an incredible food scene. I definitely gained a couple pounds over the weekend hehe 😜. Weather you are strolling along the river Tyne, dining at a fancy restaurant or whizzing on a scooter through the creative hub of Ouseburn, you are going to have a great time! I personally was happy I arrived in stottie cake week as I love baking and was happy I got to partake in some of the activities! Oh… and the bread is very yummy. If you’re planning a day trip to Newcastle, here are 6 places to visit! SAVE this reel to refer back to later on Stop 1: The Bootleg Bakery This cute little red food truck located in the back streets of Merewether serve up the freshest pastries and savoury breads. They’re a great way to get your morning started as their coffee is also delicious. Head across the road to the big park. Sit and enjoy your early morning treats. Please keep in mind that they’re only open 2 days a week (Friday and Saturday) from 8am and they sell out super quick. We got there at 10:30 and had to choose from what was left over. So get there as early as possible to get the best selection of fresh crispy treats. Stop 2: The Bogey Hole This man made ocean pool is set at the base of the beautiful cliffs between Bar beach and Newcastles main beach. The Bogey Hole is thought to be one of the oldest surviving European constructions in the city of Newcastle. The walk down takes about 5 minutes but it’s a gorgeous spot to cool off and relax before lunch. I can only imagine how busy this place would get during summer. Stop 3: Light Years Lunch is served at one of my favourite inner city restaurants, Light Years. This asian inspired diner is a relaxed, light filled venue serving up some amazing flavourful dishes such as bao buns, firecracker chicken, kingfish ceviche, miso glazed eggplant and duck pancakes. Again this restaurant is only open on some days and sessions so make sure you check their website and make a booking before you go. After lunch head to the junction for a sweet hit. Stop 4: Doughheads This doughnut and gelato store is well known amongst locals and have been serving up their delicious sugary sweets to the Newcastle community for many years.
