๐ฟ The Best Pest Control in Your Garden ๐ก No chemicals. No sprays. Just a broken terracotta pot in the shade. ๐ธ ๐ธ What One Toad Can Do A single toad can eat around 100 insects every night. From April to October, thatโs about 20,000 pests per year! They naturally control pests like: ๐ Slugs ๐ Cutworms ๐ชฒ Beetles ๐ Ants ๐ฆ Mosquitoes ๐ Aphids โฆand many more insects that damage your garden. No chemical residue. No harm to pollinators. Just natural pest control. ๐ผ๐ ๐ How to Make a Toad House (30 seconds) All you need is a 6โ8 inch terracotta pot. Option 1: Break a small notch in the rim and place the pot upside down on soil. Option 2: Lay the pot on its side with a small stone for support. Option 3: Use a cracked pot โ the crack becomes the doorway. ๐ Best Placement โ In shade (toads dry out in direct sun) โ On moist bare soil โ Near water like a birdbath or rain garden โ Close to your vegetable or flower beds ๐ฑ Why It Works A toad house creates a tiny ecosystem in your garden. It can even attract helpful predators like snakes, owls, and hawks that keep pests under control. ๐ฐ Cost: about $4 ๐ธ Benefit: up to 20,000 pests removed each season Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. ๐ฟ Have you ever seen a toad in your garden? Got a broken pot? Turn it into a toad house! ๐ธ Toads love cool, damp, shady spots to hide during the dayโand they help control pests in your garden. Place the pot on soil so they can burrow into it a bit and keep their bellies cool and moist (they breathe through their skin as well as their lungs). Just tilt the broken pot, tuck it under a plant, and let these little guys move in. ๐ฟ #toadhouse #gardenhelpers #wildlifehabitat #organicpestcontrol #naturalpestcontrol #reuserecycle

Garden inspired toad abodes and frog houses. ๐ธ ๐ธ ๐ธ ๐ธ ๐ธ ๐ธ #toadabode #froghouse #gardenart #gardendecor #gardendecoration #frog #toad #pottery

Anyone who knows me knows I love my green tree frogs. ๐ธ In fact, one of my very early paintings I canโt part with stars one. One of the first garden priorities when we moved in to our home 6 years ago was a frog hotel and garden for them to roam. As you can see, version one was looking a bit run down (not that the frogs complained). Some giant black bamboo, and few other bits and bobs, and prestoโฆthe new and improved hotel. This one is more like the Ritz than a Holiday Inn they had ๐ Relocation happened naturally by simply placing it where the old one stood. The residents were quite a bit noisier as they settled in, but I think they were saying thank you โบ๏ธ #happyfrogs #theritz #queensland #tropicalgarden #froggyfriends #greentreefrog #naturerocks #healthygarden #froghotel #holidayinn #notanymore #refurb #whitelippedgreentreefrog

These frog hotels were SO easy to make with the kids that I think every home actually needs one ๐ Hereโs how we did it ๐๐ป ๐ธ MATERIALS ๐ธ ๐๐ป Barrel look planter @kmartaus ๐๐ป Tuscan path pebbles @bunnings ๐๐ป PVC pipes + bends @bunnings ๐๐ป Solar lights @bunnings ๐ฑ PLANTS ๐ฑ ๐ฟ Pink Rotala Rotundifolia @bunnings ๐ฟ Dwarf Papyrus - Marketplace + some random duckweed that was in our pond! ๐ ๏ธ HOW TO ๐ ๏ธ ๐๐ป Arrange the pipes in a cluster and cut at varying heights. We also cut escape holes in the back of the taller pipes at approx water height. *You could also try bamboo or terracotta pipes* ๐๐ป Once youโve arranged the pipes, have one person hold them in place while the others fill the planter with pebbles. We did small pebbles at the bottom. ๐๐ป Add your plants in, arranging them on top of pebbles so they sit at the correct height. Some need more or less water! ๐๐ป Add the rest of the pebbles so the plants sit firmly in place. ๐๐ป Move the hotel to its new home before topping up with rain water and adding a solar light to help attract bugs! ๐๐ป Wait ever-so-patiently for your new residents to move in!! It only took 2 weeks for our first Striped Marsh Frog to move into our hotel in the front yard. This one was placed amongst lots of existing plants beside our pond. 2 weeks later we had eggs! However, weโre 3 months on now and our backyard hotel doesnโt have any residents yet! Overall, this was a super easy project and has provided such an incredible source of excitement for our family ๐ โโโโโโโโโโโโ Got a question about our hotels? Why You Should Add a Frog Hotel to Your Garden ๐ธ Frogs help control pests naturally, but they need cool, moist places to hide during the day. This simple setup creates the perfect environment for them to rest, stay hydrated, and feel protected. The first morning we moved them over, they hid under the moss and stayed for the day.
