2e or twice exceptional is when you have an IQ in the 98th percentile or above and a learning disability like ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorder, etc. Not everyone has all of these — but many recognize themselves in several: • Rapid, layered, abstract thinking • Deep curiosity and pattern recognition • Emotional intensity and sensitivity • Sensory overwhelm (sound, light, texture) • Strong sense of justice or morality • Perfectionism masking struggle • High output followed by burnout • Big feelings with limited regulation support • Feeling “too much” and “not enough” at the same time • Thriving with depth, struggling with structure This isn’t a flaw. It’s a nervous system that needs both challenge and regulation. 2e doesn’t mean broken. It means complex. If this helps something click, save it 🤍 We’ll keep unpacking what support actually looks like. Drop a 🫶 if this feels like you 👇 #neurodiversity #adhd #gifted #autism #twiceexceptional

You can be autistic and twice exceptional (2e).Twice exceptional means someone is both neurodivergent and gifted/high ability—often having exceptional strengths and real support needs at the same time. Because of that mix, many people get missed, misunderstood, or only half-seen. 5 ways to know you may be both autistic + 2e: 1. You’re advanced in some areas, struggling in othersYou may have a brilliant mind for patterns, language, systems, ideas, or creativity… while daily tasks, transitions, executive functioning, or social energy feel disproportionately hard. 2. People say “you’re so smart, why can’t you just…”Your intelligence is visible. Your support needs are not. 3. You learn fast when interested, shut down when notYou can master complex topics quickly, but force yourself through low-interest tasks and your brain may stall completely. 4. You’ve been called both gifted and lazyHigh ability often masks disability. Disability often masks high ability. 5. You feel misunderstood in every roomToo much for one group. Not enough for another. Smart but struggling. Capable but overwhelmed. Being 2e often means living in contradiction until the right framework explains you. You were never “wasting potential.”You were unsupported. This is why it’s important to have a comprehensive assessment and not just one that determines if you’re autistic. If you will be in the NY area and would like a comprehensive assessment find the link to book in my bio. #TwiceExceptional #AutisticAdults #autistic #autisticwomen #autism

Giftedness isn't just being "smart" or "ahead." It's a different way of thinking and viewing the world, and it comes with its own set of blessings and struggles. While academic concepts may come more easily to gifted kids, many are twice-exceptional, meaning their strengths are paired with areas of deeper struggle where they need additional support. As parents, it can be overwhelming to consider how to challenge your gifted kids as they move forward quickly in some areas but not others. We're excited to bring you this conversation with Erin Vanek, all about understanding and supporting gifted kids, asynchronous development, building frustration tolerance, and more! Brilliant at astrophysics, but struggles to find their shoes? 🚀👟 Welcome to the world of the Twice Exceptional (2e) child. If your child can explain the complexities of the universe but “forgets” a three-step instruction to clean their room, you aren’t alone—and they aren’t being lazy. This is the 2e Paradox: High cognitive ability (Gifted) + Neurodivergent challenges (ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia). It’s a brain that’s “asynchronous.” They are developing at different speeds in different areas. The goal isn’t to “level them out”—it’s to celebrate the spark while scaffolding the struggles. When we stop labeling the gap as “laziness” and start seeing it as “wiring,” everything changes. 2e kids are some of the most extraordinary thinkers on the planet. They just need a world that understands their map. 🌍❤️ Hit SHARE to help more people understand the 2e profile! ↗️ What is your child’s “2e Superpower” and their “Daily Struggle”? 📱 FOLLOW @MomlifebyZaire 📌 SAVE & 🔄 SHARE THIS When ADHD and autism are in the same house, this is what it actually looks like. ADHD rushes ahead. Skips the instructions. Starts before anyone says go. Autism needs the steps in order. Needs it done the right way. And when ADHD blows past that? The frustration is real. This is not a behavior problem. This is two nervous systems with completely opposite needs trying to exist at the same time. The ADHD brain is wired for urgency. Waiting feels physically painful. The autistic brain is wired for predictability. Disruption feels like chaos. Neither one is wrong. They just need different things, and when those needs collide, everyone ends up dysregulated. As a mom navigating this, your job is not to pick a side. It is to understand what is driving each reaction and build a home environment that works for both. This is the part nobody prepares you for when you have a twice exceptional family. Have you heard of 2e kiddos? Twice exceptional. Gifted and different brain wiring (adhd and/or autism) Can’t tell you how many kids I’ve seen labeled as ODD by their pediatrician and school system and treated like the problem child….until someone realizes they aren’t bad kids they just need to be approached in a way to help their unique brain wiring. And then…they don’t just thrive they flourish and it’s so amazing for the child, family, and school. What questions do you have about 2e? #2e #twiceexceptional #adhd #autism #gifted
