What’s the difference between the prepositions “under” and “below” in English? These two words have very similar meanings and are even interchangeable in some situations, but in today’s video, I give you several rules and situations that will help you to use them correctly. Keep in mind that both of these prepositions mean “at a lower position than something else”, but we typically use “under” for objects that are covered by something else, or when there is movement happening at a lower position than something. “Below”, however, is just used when something is at a lower position than something else. Also, “under” is a synonym of “less than” that we use to talk about age and time, while “below” is typically used when talking about temperature.
