My HONEST TAKE on safety in Sri Lanka ⬇️ I spent 3 weeks traveling most of the island and here’s what it was actually like: 🔸 Did I ever feel unsafe? Not once. Locals are incredibly kind and helpful, and honestly, I was shocked by how many people speak English there. I think I used a translation app once the entire trip. Vendors aren’t pushy, no one really bothers you… well, maybe a few tuk tuk drivers trying to get a ride 😅 but a polite “no thank you” works every time. 🔸 Is it safe for solo female travelers? Absolutely. I’d go back solo with zero hesitation. People might look at you because you stand out, but it never felt uncomfortable. Just use common sense and safety precautions, like anywhere else. 🔸 Scams or harassment? We didn’t experience it either. If we got scammed, it was so smooth we didn’t even notice 😂 Prices can be higher for tourists (understandably, since tourism keeps Sri Lanka’s economy going), but it never felt unfair or crazy overpriced. 🔸 Walking alone at night? Depends where you are. We walked around a few less touristy spots at night and definitely got some curious looks but nothing bad (just more of a surprise that we were even there) 😂 In tourist areas, it felt totally fine. 🔸 How are the locals? Sri Lankan people are some of the warmest, happiest, and most genuine you’ll ever meet. Everyone smiles, helps, and makes you feel at home. Once upon a time, our tour bus kept breaking down over and over and one of my team members was understandably annoyed and packing his stuff to change buses again. Another one of my team members watched the annoying packing taking place but also watched as my dad was quietly making a coffee while all of this was happening. Then, according to my friend, my dad quietly , almost as if to himself murmured under a smile, “it’s not a problem, it’s an adventure” :) 🦦

‼️LONGEST RESIDENT‼️ This #HAPWoofWednesday we are highlighting one of our longest resident dogs, Rocky! Rocky has spent 418 days in our care, hoping to find his forever home. He is a 6-year-old black lab mix, who came to us from unimaginable circumstances. Rocky was rescued from a severe abuse and neglect case in Alabama. When he arrived, he was suffering from severe mange, malnutrition, and flea dermatitis, covered in scabs with barely any fur left. Understandably, this trauma has deeply affected Rocky’s ability to trust and interact with humans, which is why he has been with us this long. As Rocky recovered, his true personality began to shine! With time and patience, Rocky forms deep bonds with his friends. He is incredibly affectionate, often tossing his body into your legs for scratches and pets. The fastest way to his heart is with delicious snacks or an extra large stuffie. Despite his big boy size, Rocky is very gentle and loving with his toys, often piling them together in his kennel and curling up with them. He walks beautifully on a leash and redirects easily with a treat. Rocky also appears house-trained and knows basic commands! While Rocky’s fur may never fully grow back, he’s just as joyful and confident as any other dog. Despite his past, Rocky is still able to trust, he just needs a little time to get there. We would recommend a calm home environment, with people who can understand and respect his space as he gets comfortable with you. Trust us, it is worth the wait with this lover boy! Overall, he truly is a laid-back, lazy pup that really just wants a few close pals and a comfy couch to live out his golden years! ⭐️Rocky is available at HAP Wilmington!
