Some more information 👇 1. USCIS must receive your OPT application within 30 days of the date your I-20 was issued AND no later than 60 days after your I-20 end date. 2. While editing this video, I learned that the fee to file the online I-765 has increased from $410 to $470, effective from April 1st, 2024. I filed mine before that, hence I paid $410. The fee to file via mail has increased to $520. 3. I recommend applying for OPT as soon as possible. I started collecting all my documents in the first couple of weeks of February, applied in the last week of February, and received my EAD card by the last week of April. USCIS also makes it clear that processing times can vary anywhere from 3-5 months after you submit the form I-765. 4. Your university might or might not charge you a different amount to process your new I-20. NYU charged me $100, so costs can vary. 5. I made an error and said 90 days of employment instead of 90 days of UNemployment. I have indicated this in the reel too. 6. You should set your OPT start date according to when you think you will start working. This is something you must decide with your employer. 7. Applying for STEM-OPT is a process we must complete later on, and I personally have not done it hence I don’t talk about it. 8. When I say ‘After this is approved, you need to fill out form I-765’, I meant after the new I-20 is approved by your university. The graphic there is slightly misleading. 🚨 Got an OPT RFE after filing your application? Don’t panic. Many international students think an RFE means their OPT is getting denied. In reality, most of the time it’s much simpler. Often it’s just a biometrics update because United States Citizenship and Immigration Services does not have a recent photo on file. Here’s what to do: 1️⃣ Read the RFE carefully Check if it’s asking for biometrics or just a new photo. 2️⃣ Wait for your biometrics appointment notice You will be scheduled at a local Application Support Center (ASC). 3️⃣ Bring the right documents Carry your passport, I-20, and receipt notice to the appointment. 4️⃣ Complete the biometrics appointment Photo and sometimes fingerprints.
