Varroa mite are one of the biggest threats facing honey bees today and it’s something every beekeeper has to help their hives survive from. These tiny mites attach themselves to bees, feeding on their fat bodies and weakening their immune systems. But the real danger doesn’t stop there varroa mites also spread deadly viruses throughout the hive, often leading to colony collapse if left untreated. What makes them especially concerning is how quickly they reproduce. A small infestation can turn into a full-blown crisis in just a few weeks, silently damaging a hive from the inside out by reproducing inside the baby bee cells. #varroa #beeeducation #beesofinstagram #pest #beekeeper

Varroaresistenz jetzt Meine Erfahrung ist, dass Varroa-Resistenz, wie sie heute propagiert wird, allein durch Selektionszucht oder Genetik zu erreichen, halte ich nach 15 Jahren eigener Praxis für eine Illusion. Ich rede hier von 100 Völkern auf kleinen Zellen, die seit über 15 Jahren komplett ohne jede Behandlung laufen – und das funktioniert. Die meisten Imker machen im Umgang mit den Bienen so viele grundlegende Fehler, vor allem weil fast alles auf maximalen Ertrag und Gewinn ausgerichtet ist. Solange diese Haltung nicht grundlegend geändert wird, werden die Bienen es niemals aus eigener Kraft schaffen, mit Parasiten wie der Varroa klarzukommen. Die wirklich entscheidenden Punkte sind die von Ed und Dee Lusby empfohlenen: - Kein Kunstfutter - örtlich angepasste, standortgerechte Bienenrassen, - natürliche Zellgröße wie sie vor über 100 Jahren üblich war - natürliche Wabenbau Anordnung, - uneingeschränktes Brutnest, - kein Wandern der Völker, - kontrollierte Drohnenbrut - gar keine Behandlungen - zulassen von Krisen - absolut reines, rückstandsfreies Wachs, denn praktisch alles Bienenwachs, das auf dem Markt ist, ist hoch belastet mit Chemierückständen usw Und jetzt meine Gegenfrage an dich: Behandelst du deine Völker? Ich behandle seit mehr als 15 Jahren nicht – mit 100 Völkern auf kleinen Zellen! Und ich bin damit bei weitem nicht allein. Es gibt etliche sehr erfahrene Profis, die mit tausenden von Kleinzellen-Völkern behandlungsfrei arbeiten: Kirk Webster USA, Lauri USA, Dee Lusby Arizona, Dean Stieglitz USA, Hans Otto Johnsen Profi Imker aus Norwegen, Svensson, Terje Reinertsen arbeitet mit kleinen Zellen und bekam vor Kurzem eine Million Dollar vom norwegischen Staat zur Erforschung seiner Varroaresistenz, Thore Härnkloo aus Schweden, Olle Ohlsson aus Finnland, Erik Österlund aus Schweden und noch einige mehr! Throwback to doing a varroa test on this heavily infested beehive during my inspecting days. Found a whole dang family of varroa in one cell! Creepy little things 🦀 What method do you use to track your varroa levels? While inspecting, the method I had to use was the alcohol wash. I couldn’t give out permits if levels were over 3% in the spring, so I had to be sure what levels we were dealing with to not spread varroa bombs around. However on a larger scale, only a percentage were tested but with the knowledge that most beekeepers treat the whole yard based on the sample size finding. #varroa #beekeepinggirl #honeybee #apiculture

6 mites on 300 drone cells constitutes for treatment, imo.
