We often get asked what breed Wilbur and Palmer are and the full answer is Long Haired Miniature English Cream Dachshund 🐾 People always think they’re mixed with golden retriever but they’re not, they’re purebred dachshunds 🥰 they look just as cute and act just as sweet as a golden retriever but they’re about 1/10 of the size! The reason we wanted English Cream Dachshunds is because we move around a lot (hi, other military families, you get it), lived in an apartment, and love to travel. So, for us, it made sense to get small dogs but we LOVE golden retrievers. Our family dogs are golden retrievers (hi @dacoooop ) so we have a huge place in our hearts for goldens. That’s how we found/fell in love with English Cream Dachshunds! I frequently see people talking about how “stubborn” dachshunds are, that they’re difficult to potty train and that they bark at everything. We have not seen that with Wilbur and Palmer and know plenty of others who haven’t either. I do have my masters degree in a field that utilizes a scientific approach to understand behavior in humans. I have applied that knowledge to my training with Wilbur and Palmer and that does contribute to my view on training dachshunds (and dogs in general). Wilbur and Palmer love people, dogs, kayaking, running in the rain, playing in the snow and beach, and can hike 10+ miles. They’re fine when left alone at home, Palmer was potty trained in 1 week; Wilbur in 3, adjust to every new setting very well, they’re incredibly athletic and love to snuggle. There are still areas of improvement but we’ve worked really hard to give them the tools to live a happy, carefree life. Keep in mind, Dachshunds are prone to IVDD so make sure you’re able to accommodate the needs of their sensitive backs. But I think no matter what breed you have, always do your research and make sure you are able to provide an environment that meets your dog’s needs and find a trainer that will do the same. I’ll never claim to be an expert on the topic of dachshunds just because we have two, but let me know what questions you have down below!

In March 2014, two Dutch girls, Kris Kremers (21) and Lisanne Froon (22), traveled to Boquete, Panama for a volunteer project and to explore a new part of the world. They were smart, adventurous, and full of life. On April 1st, they decided to hike the El Pianista Trail, a popular path that leads into the Panamanian jungle. They never returned. Days passed. Their families and local police began to search—first with volunteers, then with helicopters and dogs. But there was no sign of the girls. Over two months later, a local woman found Lisanne’s backpack near a river. Inside were both their phones, a digital camera, and Lisanne’s passport—strangely clean despite the rain and jungle. The photos showed the girls smiling at the beginning of the hike… then later, deep in the forest, scared and lost. Soon after, bones and clothing were discovered, including Kris’s pelvis and a foot still inside a boot. Tests confirmed: the remains belonged to Kris and Lisanne. What exactly happened is still a mystery. Some believe they got lost and died of injuries or starvation. Others think something more sinister happened—perhaps an accident with locals or foul play. But no clear cause of death was ever confirmed.
