The moment Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar sold ALL of Vol Nation 🍊 Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar passed for 247 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 24 Tennessee held off Syracuse for a 45-26 win to open the 2025 season. Aguilar, who transferred in from UCLA in the spring, was 16-for-28 passing in his first game with the Volunteers. He threw this 73-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Staley in the second quarter and found Star Thomas for a 7-yard TD in the third. He also helped close out the win when he passed to Miles Kitselman for a 2-yard TD in the fourth. “I came prepared,” Aguilar said after the game. “I go into every game cool, calm and collected. I have a little mellow flow to me. I get excited, obviously (on) good plays but I don’t get too down on bad plays. Everybody looks to me on the team so I keep that composure and keep going.” Aguilar stepped in during an uncertain time for Tennessee Football, following the departure of Nico Iamaleava in the spring, and made the most of his opportunity. FIRST LOOK at Tennessee CB Jermod McCoy at Raiders practice 🍊👀 Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy got his first reps in as a Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. McCoy was selected with the No. 101 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders in Pittsburgh, becoming the first Volunteer taken on Day 3. McCoy’s rise to the NFL Draft capped a remarkable comeback story. The Oregon State transfer missed the entire 2025 season after tearing his ACL in January of 2025, but posted a 4.38 40-yard dash at Tennessee’s Pro Day in late March that reaffirmed his status as one of the top cornerbacks in the class. Before the injury, McCoy delivered a standout debut season in Knoxville. He posted 44 tackles and nine pass breakups in 2024, earning Second-Team All-American honors and helped lead a Tennessee defense that powered the Vols to their first ever College Football Playoff appearance.
