How to start thinking in shapes and why you need that in your watercolor practice? 🧐 The reason is, we are painting with water and things dry on us pretty quickly. So it’s good to be efficient with your brushstrokes. Not only your shapes will look more effortless, but also the overall look of your painting will become more lively. ✔️ The first tip is not to outline the shape in order to then fill it in. ✔️ Try to not use your brush as a liner. Instead you can use it to its full potential by adjusting the pressure and using the belly of the brush to actually place the shape onto your paper. This allows you to paint faster and more efficiently. ✨ Notice how when I paint more complex shapes I try to establish the main mass for the shape first and then fine tune the subject with the tip of my brush. It allows me to keep a big even shape with the water evenly spread on the surface. For example, I always do a couple of bold brushstrokes to paint the mountains, without any sketch. If you try to carefully follow your sketch lines you risk losing the naturalistic look. That’s my tip for the day, hope you find it helpful💕 Happy painting!
