Last night the sun was hitting juuuust right and I had so many questions about these roses! They are climbing iceberg roses and start blooming early May through the summer. You’ll need to prune them during the winter so they keep coming back wild and bushy each year… just how I like them 😂

When we planted these climbing roses (New Dawns) I was, frankly, clueless - but excited about the fact that they were re-bloomers, meaning - they don’t bloom just once throughout the year, but multiple times. Enter: deadheading. I had no idea what the heck this meant, or how to do it. So, here’s how! In my experience, blooms are much more abundant and frequent if I take a few minutes to do this every week. Have any questions or deadheading tips? Let me know!

DAVID AUSTIN’S ST. SWITHUN: It’s wonderful to see the growth and beauty of the two St. Swithun roses on this arch over the past four years. They may seem slightly overgrown as I skipped pruning them this time. However, I do think that a wild and cascading growth adds a certain charm, particularly as they drape down towards the gate. Once their first show is complete, I will prune them back a bit. This will not only enhance ventilation but also help prevent the occurrence of black spots.
