aaaand two more sneaky bonus signs most people miss: 1. less than 500 connections or followers LinkedIn reads this as inactivity. start by connecting with people you already know - existing clients, former colleagues, warm contacts. 2. less than 50 profile views per week you exist on LinkedIn but nobody’s finding you. fix it by commenting meaningfully on big names in your industry. not “great post!” (we can do better) - something that shares value or insight. 3. your DMs are full of spam your profile is attracting the wrong people. an optimised profile acts as a filter. It’s 2026, I know we all hate LinkedIn…so let’s start making it work in our favor! Here are the 3 mistakes I see over and over again while searching for top talent on LinkedIn: 1. You’re writing your profile for people instead of the algorithm. Yes, LinkedIn has an algorithm too. Most candidates write their About section like a networking intro, but LinkedIn’s search engine doesn’t care about sounding friendly - it cares about indexing terms. If your first 2-3 lines don’t contain the roles, industries, tools, or specialties you want to rank for, you’re basically burying the keywords that will help get you found. 2. Your experience billets read like accomplishments…not like search queries. Recruiters don’t search “improved efficiency by 20%.” We search for keywords like “salesforce”, “healthcare”, “product”, or (LLM or “large language model”). If your bullets are too poetic or achievement focused (without core language), your profile becomes unsearchable. I’m begging you…please save the impact statements for your resume!!! 3. You’re hiding your strongest credibility signal in the wrong place. LinkedIn heavily weighs Skills + Endorsements + Recommendations, yet most candidates treat them like optional extras. Your most searchable keywords should be in your Skills section (not your headline), and your best social proof should be in your Recommendations (not buried in your About section). Recruiters check these sections way more than you think — so please advocate for yourself and ask colleagues, leaders and clients for recommendations!
