Friendship, competition, and seamanship came together in the best possible way out on the sea. Double Disqualification at the Mark Rounding in Marmaris Winter Trophy @miyc_org @teamlinearossa @boreas_sailingteam On the first day of racing of the Marmaris Winter Trophy – Leg 2, an incident occurred between Beymetal – Team Linea Rossa and Boreas at the first mark rounding. Following the incident, the Protest Committee conducted a hearing and issued a disqualification for both boats. According to the Protest Committee’s decision, Boreas was disqualified for breaking RRS 10 (On Opposite Tacks), having been sailing on port tack and failing to keep clear of Beymetal – Team Linea Rossa, which was sailing on starboard tack. Beymetal – Team Linea Rossa, although the right-of-way boat, was found to have broken RRS 14 (Avoiding Contact). The Committee concluded that contact could reasonably have been avoided and that Beymetal – Team Linea Rossa did not take sufficient action to prevent the collision once it became clear that Boreas was not keeping clear. The decision highlights that even a right-of-way boat is required to avoid contact when reasonably possible, and underscores the importance of correct rule application and timely maneuvers, particularly in congested mark roundings.
