Piping plover chicks are the size of cotton balls and are the only endangered species that nests in NYC. This chick was kept frozen since 2001, the year I moved to NYC, to fulfill my dreams of becoming an artist. Years later found out they nest near the queer beach that I found joy and comfort in! And many more years later, I found myself tasked with preserving one of their kin. How special that we all find ourselves nourished by the same land! This tiny bird is one of the most meaningful I’ve worked on. I spend my off hours volunteering to protect them, so to preserve one came with so much gravity. This fluff ball is an archive of themselves, their kin, and our human impact. This most fragile species now lives on to fill hearts and open minds to their plight. I only hope that we will listen! I worked on this at @georgedante studio, for a permitted educational collection.

He made it 🤣🤣🤣 " they see me floating dey hating" (see previous video) lmao #funnyvideos #lol

It’s so cool watching the water turn into droplets and roll off their backs 🦆💦 If you want to nerd out with me for a second… Most people already know that ducks have something called a preen gland that excretes a waxy, oily substance. You’ll see them constantly preening their feathers, and this is to spread that oil all over their body. The oil also makes their colors pop. But it’s not only that! Their contour feathers have barbicels, which are like little hooks that lock into the other feathers barbicels. This little mechanism protects them from water and wind. It’s the combination of spreading the oil over the interlocking feathers that creates this protective barrier. The more you know! #science #ducks #raisingducks #ducksmakegreatpets #animalvideos
