Delete these words from your writing 🚫 Before we start, I’m going to give the obvious disclaimer that there’s nuance to this, and you shouldn’t take a catchy hook as a hard rule. The following words can often be deleted from your prose just because there are often stronger, more effective ways to write. That said, if there are places where you think they work, LEAVE THEM IN. Also, this doesn’t count for dialogue. . SUDDENLY: See if you can convey suddenness instead of writing ‘suddenly’. For example, you could swap ‘suddenly, the door opened’ to ‘the door burst open’. . FELT: (As in the past tense of ‘to feel’, not the fuzzy fabric.) There are some cases where this word works fine, but see if your sentence could be stronger if you described the feeling instead of just saying ‘he felt X’. For example, instead of ‘he felt agitated’, show him pacing, write his scattered thoughts, describe his fidgeting, and so on. If you need some guidance, check out the ✨FREE BODY LANGUAGE CHEAT SHEET✨ linked in my bio for a handy reference. . SAW/HEARD: Sometimes these words have a purpose, but they can often be replaced with something stronger and more direct. Instead of ‘he heard a man walking’ you could write ‘footsteps echoed down the hallway’. This can be more vivid. It allows readers to experience sights/sounds firsthand instead of filtering them through the character’s perspective. . SEEMED: Again, this word has its place. If you want your sentence to sound more direct and concise, remove it. If you want to keep an air of uncertainty, keep it. For example, you could rewrite ‘everyone seemed to agree’ with ‘a wave of applause rippled through the crowd’. . 👉  Save for later ✨  Follow @schoolofplot for more writing advice, tips, prompts 🔍  Get writing resources and freebies in the link in my bio . 📓✏️Let’s teach text structure! Text structure is how a text is organized, and it helps students understand what they’re reading. When students know the structure, they know what to expect and can tell when something doesn’t make sense. Here’s how to teach it: 1️⃣ Use mentor texts that match each text structure. 2️⃣ Look for signal words (but don’t rely on them). They can be helpful, but they’re not always there or they might be misleading. 3️⃣ Connect it to main idea. How the text is organized helps students figure out what it’s mostly about (and vice versa). 4️⃣ Practice with small amounts of text: task cards, centers, games, etc. If you’re using the morning work, then you’re already providing weekly practice for your students! This really makes it stick!! 5️⃣ Use graphic organizers. They help students actually see how the text is organized. 6️⃣ Connect it to science and social studies. Text structure is E V E R Y W H E R E in science and social studies! Your textbooks are a goldmine. Use text structure graphic organizers to help teach your content area concepts. ✏️📓✨Comment TEXT STRUCTURE and I’ll send free notebook charts, a graphic organizer, and a free bookmark to get you started!

your text hierarchy isn’t just about size… and this is the bit most people miss 👇 a brighter, bolder colour will catch the eye first even if it’s way smaller than the text next to it. so if everything in your video looks the same size and the same colour, nothing actually stands out. you want enough difference between your text layers — in size, weight, and colour — so your viewer instantly knows what’s most important. pleasing to look at AND easier to read. win win. 🩵🤍🩵 #texthierarchy

Comment “script” and I’ll DM you my exact framework 📩 This tiny shift in my script structure changed everything. Most creators don’t realise how powerful just two words can be: “You” and “But.” “You” makes your viewer feel like you’re speaking directly to them. “But” adds the twist, the tension, the reason to stay hooked. When you use both in your opening line, your retention shoots up 🚀 I teach this exact framework (with real examples + templates) inside my system! If you struggle to write hooks or structure your message… this will change the game for you.
