FCCLA Week Day 4: Alumni Day ❤️🤍 Today we celebrated how FCCLA prepares students not just for careers — but for life. We were honored to welcome Amber Liermann, Maricopa City Council member and former Vice Mayor, as our guest speaker. She shared her inspiring journey from mental health counselor to city leadership and reminded our students that one of the most powerful FCCLA skills is leadership. Our students asked thoughtful questions and truly leaned into the conversation! We also heard from our alumni, Slade Miller, now studying nursing at ASU and preparing for an exchange program in Japan 🇯🇵. He shared how FCCLA helped shape his confidence, communication skills, and success as a college student. FCCLA doesn’t just build resumes — it builds leaders. At the Monterey Academy of Oceanographic Science, experiential learning is not considered an enrichment opportunity—it serves as a cornerstone of the school’s academic philosophy.🎓🧬🔬🔭🥼 All seniors complete an 80-hour professional internship prior to graduation, engaging in meaningful, real-world experiences that connect classroom learning to community application. Through these internships, students develop critical thinking, professional communication, and career readiness skills. Following the completion of their internships, students participate in a formal community interview and reflection event. This year, more than 50 community members—including professionals, organizational leaders, alumni, and mentors—generously volunteered their time to engage seniors in thoughtful conversations about their learning, growth, and professional contributions. The event exemplifies the ongoing partnership between MAOS and the broader community—a collaboration that continues to strengthen both the students and the institutions they serve.
