WILL SMITH: when I reflect back on a day that really stands out for me, it was my birthday last year: March 24th. I was hanging out at The Lighthouse (a co-working space for creators — I’m a founding member) with my friends @doctor.gonzalez + @jesseisrael and Will Smith was hosting a listening party for his album there and walked by me. I hadn’t seen him in a while and I was wearing the bracelet he gifted me in the middle of my Bad Boys: Ride or Die interview a year prior in April 2024. The bracelet was quite symbolic for me because it was my first time interviewing Will rnstantly connected. In the middle of his interview, he gifted me a bracelet that read “dance in the darkness” and after he gave it to me, I entered one of the darkest years of my life. Will’s bracelet was always a reminder for me that we all have the ability to rise. I’d wear it often. Here was one of the biggest movie stars in the world doing that exact thing - dancing in the darkness - after a previously really hard year/s for him. So it was wild that exactly one calendar year later, on my birthday, right when I was finally coming out of that darkness, I ran into Will and got to tell him what happened after he gave me the bracelet. What a full circle moment. Will Smith has always been a symbol of resiliency for me. He has the ability to rise like no other actor I’ve witnessed or gotten the privilege to get to know.
