Under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), employees have the right to discuss wages with coworkers. Why? Because it helps prevent pay discrimination. 2️⃣ Retaliation is Illegal—Even if Your Complaint is Dismissed If you report discrimination, harassment, or illegal activity at work, your employer cannot fire, demote, or discipline you in response—even if the complaint doesn’t go anywhere. Retaliation is a separate legal violation under laws like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Whistleblower Protection Act. 3️⃣ You Have the Right to Request Your Personnel File In many states, you have the right to review and request copies of your personnel file, which may contain performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and other records. This can be critical if you suspect wrongful termination or retaliation. 4️⃣ You Don’t Have to Sign Everything They Give You Employers often pressure employees to sign documents like performance improvement plans (PIPs), severance agreements, or disciplinary actions. But you have the right to ask for time to review before signing. You can also refuse to sign, especially if you disagree with what’s written. 5️⃣ You Have the Right to Take Legal Action—Even if You Signed an ‘At-Will’ Agreement Many employees believe that signing an at-will employment agreement means they can be fired for any reason. Not true. Employers cannot fire you for reasons that violate federal, state, or local laws—such as discrimination, retaliation, or whistleblowing. Farmers, students, teachers, and other professionals joined the call, resulting in a major disruption to Indian industries. The 2020 labor codes, propelled by the BJP, strip workers of their rights and directly attack unionization and collective bargaining.
