💥Repost @rj_cbc 🗣️ The countermovement jump. ⠀ ⠀ The CMJ is extremely helpful in evaluating athletes for many reasons. We can look at how athletes are performing in specific phases of the jump such as: The unweighting, braking, propulsive, flight, and landing phases. ⠀ ⠀ We are able to tell whether athletes are more elastic or on the stiffer side. In my opinion, the CMJ is helpful to not change an athlete much, but more so to sharpen the blade with what they have and maximizing the time in which they look to produce force. In this video alone, you can see each athlete utilizing the SSC and producing force a little bit differently. That’s the real piece of the puzzle. ⠀ ⠀ It all starts with the athletes ability to effectively unweight. The more an athlete can unweight, the more potential for downward / braking momentum. We then work into the braking phase which we can see how well an athlete can put force into the ground to put the brakes on. With more momentum, more braking force, we are able to effectively utilize the SSC (stretch-shortening cycle.) ⠀ ⠀ The braking phase will set up force at minimum displacement, which will then set athletes up to produce more force earlier in the propulsive phase. ⠀ ⠀ We can get a ton of return-to-play feedback in the CMJ as well, such as asymmetries in each phase of the CMJ. ⠀ ⠀ I highly value power metrics when evaluation my baseball athletes. Understanding P=FV (power = force x velocity) we can dive into each piece of the equation and adjust programming based on deficiencies that are stalling power numbers from increasing. ⠀ ⠀ Are you going to add accommodating resistance to challenge the propulsive phase in a squat? Or to over-speed the eccentric phase to work on an athletes ability to unweight / yield? Are we looking for an increase in stiffness or elasticity? YIELDING = absorpce energie Do první kategorie můžeme řadit například overcoming izometrii, veškeré koncentrické typy kontrakce jako balistické cviky, power varianty vzpírání, oscilační metody a plyometrii s důrazem na maximální produkci (většina). Why isometrics? ✅You can recruit up to 10% more muscle fibers during a maximal isometric action than during a maximal concentric or eccentric one. Since fiber recruitment is one of the key neural factors affecting strength, frequent isometric training can program your nervous system to be more efficient at recruiting more fibers. Once that is done, you will become stronger in the key positions ✅The firing rate of the recruited muscle fibers is higher during a maximal isometric action than during a maximal eccentric action and might be also higher than during maximal concentric actions. Again, over a certain length of time this means that by using maximal isometric actions in a fixed position you can train your neuromuscular system to produce a higher firing rate during all types of muscle actions. This is another way of increasing strength production. ✅ During isometric exercises, strength is gained mostly at the trained joint angle. There is a carryover of about 15 degrees both sides (before and after the angle being trained) but the further away you are from the trained angle, the lesser the strength gains are. While this can be seen as a downside, it can also be beneficial since it allows you to target a specific part of the bowling action. Strengthen the range of motion through isometric holds ✅A certain form of isometrics can be used to desensitize your body’s protective mechanisms: functional isometrics. Which are a super short-range partial lift (about 2 inches of movement) followed by a static hold for about 6-9 seconds. Overtime it will desensitize your protective mechanisms, allowing you to use more of your strength potential. An added benefit of overcoming isometrics is that they do not cause any muscle damage.
