How I Use Anki in Medical School! For those who are new, Anki is a type of spaced repetition software that can be downloaded onto your computer, tablet, or phone. Students are able to study different types of flashcards, and this type of learning can be great for situations where you need to memorize hundreds or even thousands of terms and keep them in your memory for a long period of time. Many college students get a taste of Anki for the first time when studying for the MCAT (10/10 recommend), and I would say that many if not most of the medical students that I have met or talked to use Anki as well. Here is how I’ve been using Anki so far in medical school: -Using a premade deck: during undergrad, I enjoyed making my own Anki decks for memorization-heavy classes. However, in medical school our classes have much more information than undergrad and they are taught at a much faster rate. Years ago, an upperclass student at our school made a great deck for anatomy, with cards specifically tagged for each lecture. I’ve been using this premade Anki Deck to save a ton of time. All I have to do is unsuspend the relevant cards each day and add any specific cards that I want from the lecture. -Using the AMBOSS add on: Anki Add ons are optional features that you can choose to add to the computer software to customize your learning. I absolutely love the AMBOSS add on because it allows me to click on unfamiliar words in my Anki flashcards and quickly read an article all about it. This saves me quite a bit of time when learning, because I no longer have to scroll through lecture notes or slides when I’m studying. 10/10 would recommend! -I’ve been asked to share the specific settings that I have for Anki, so feel free to pause the video at the end if you want to take a look! Have you ever given Anki a try? Let me know in the comments below, and feel free to ask any questions :) #premed #premedlife #premedgoals #premedmemes #premedmotivation #mcat #mcatprep #mcatmemes #medicalstudent #medicalschool #gradstudent #student #anatomy #meded #medgram #studygram #futuredoctor #futuredocs #futuredocsofinsta #futuremd #futuredo #osteopathic #osteopathicphysician

We all know flashcards and the Feynman technique are classics when it comes to memorising a ton of facts. But as a medical student, I’ve been on a mission to find faster, smarter ways to study so that I can remember more in less time📚 Here are 3 underrated techniques that have actually helped me: ⬇️ 1️⃣Chunking Your brain’s working memory can only hold around 4–7 pieces of info at once (Miller’s Law). So instead of memorising random facts, group them by theme. Example: Instead of 6 separate symptoms, group them into systems (theme): → Neurological: confusion, headache → GI: nausea, vomiting → Cardio: tachycardia, hypotension Chunking reduces overload and makes recall so much easier. 2️⃣Sensation Tagging Attach your info to what you see, hear, or feel—this adds a sensory cue to boost recall.🦻 Example: Eight = Ear (they both start with E). So cranial nerve VIII (Eight) controls hearing (Ear) and balance. 3️⃣Elaboration Ask yourself “Why?” and “How does this connect to what I already know?” When you elaborate, you activate more brain regions and create multiple memory pathways. The deeper the processing, the better the retention.🧠 Have you tried any of these? Or do you have your own secret study hack? Drop it below! 📌Save for later! —— Follow @carmen.strives for more productivity hacks I learned in med school *✩‧₊˚ #medschooldiaries #medstudentlife #medstudent #medschool #studytips #studyhacks #examprep #stayfocus #focusmode #grindmode #memorisation

if studying is overwhelming for you, you’re not alone🫂Here are some apps that make studying a lot easier! 1. ANKI : this is a flash card app that can be downloaded on your desktop or iPad. This app uses spaced repetition. It has amazing add ons like “image occlusion tool” where you can take a PowerPoint slide and block out the important information to help you study (I have a whole carousel on how to use Anki) 2. QUIZLET: We all know and love this app for a reason💙 it has practice tests, games, Quizlet Diagrams (where label an image. I LOVED THIS FOR ANATOMY), and flash cards. 3. FREEFORM: this is a perfect app to help you mind map and brainstorm (I also have a whole video going over this) What app are you going to try?

🫁 SAVE and SHARE with your fellow anki warriors! 🫁 as someone who did not take anatomy in college, trying to master anatomy in medical school embodied the “drinking out of the firehose” saying. However, here are some of the decks that allowed me to practice identifying structures outside of the lab and that hopefully you will find useful too!! 1: Michigan BlueLink - this is THE anki deck that everyone uses to practice identifying structures. They have beautiful images from formaldehyde cadavers that clearly show the structures!! However, if you have different kinds of donor bodies in your institution, this deck may not be super reflective of what you are seeing in your lab! 2: netter better deck - I found this off of reddit but essentially this deck makes cards of the beautiful diagrams done by the Frank Netter in his anatomy textbook! I find this to be more useful in identifying structures in potential models that I would see in lab. Be sure to suspend any irrelevant cards! 3: school specific anki decks - I used my institution’s specific anki deck to run through the clinical relevance and functions of the structures we had to learn! this was mostly just for making sure I passed the written anatomy questions for our in house exams. :) check to see if your school offers decks like these! 🤍 good luck for those starting/going through anatomy right now!! Anki is just one of the many ways to be successful; but going into the lab in person is THE BEST way to conquer anatomy 🤍 follow me @aliciamedjourney for more anatomy tips!! 😷 🏷️ #premed #medstagram #medicalstudent #medstudent #medicine #medstudentlife #medicalschool #viral #studygram #anatomy #studytips #anatomytips #medicalschooltips #anki #premedtips #premedadvice

GAME CHANGING ANKI + UWORLD STUDY HACK ⬇️ I have been using Anki combined with UWorld for my dedicated step 1 prep for a little while now & I just discovered this incredible add-on to help go over topics/questions you get incorrect or are weak on! I’ve loved it so far so I created a video with the steps incase anyone else could also benefit 🫶 This will only work if you’re using the Anking deck & will also unsuspend any cards related to the question so just a heads up on that! 1️⃣ go to ankiweb.com and search for the UWorld filtered decks 2️⃣ copy the add on code and go to → tools → add on & paste it there 3️⃣ restart Anki so the add on properly downloads 4️⃣ go to UWorld and find question(s) you may have gotten wrong or want to review 5️⃣ if you look at the top left of the page where it says “item __ out of __” there is a unique question ID underneath → copy that number 6️⃣ copy any other question IDs you want to create decks for 7️⃣ go to the tools tab in Anki and there will be an option called “UWorld Filtered Decks” 8️⃣ type in the numbers separated by commas & once you do that, you’ll see a section where Anki creates short decks based on the question ID/topic 👏🏽 This is an incredible way to have a more focused review and to learn from the questions you get wrong so that you don’t repeat the mistake on test day. Best of luck & happy studying! 📚 🏷️: #medstudent #studygram #studywithme #step1 #step1prep #step1usmle #usmle #usmlestep1 #medschool #studyhacks #studytips #studentdoctor #ankiremote #medschoollife #premeddiarries #pakistani #dailymotivation #muslimsinmedicine #medschoolmotivation #motivation #medicine #lifestyle #lifestyleblogger #pakistaniblogger #motivation #motivationalreel #studymotivation

🚨 Learn so fast it feels ILLEGAL ⬇️ Forget studying for hours—these techniques will have you learning quicker than you ever thought possible: ✍️ Scribble Method – Doodle random scribbles with your non-dominant hand while you study. It keeps your brain engaged and improves memory retention without even trying. 🧠 Active Recall – Test yourself instead of passively rereading notes. The more your brain struggles to remember, the stronger your memory gets. 📢 Feynman Technique – Teach the topic in the simplest way possible. If you can’t explain it clearly, you don’t fully understand it yet—go back and simplify. 🗂️ Second Brain – Organize your notes digitally in a clear, structured system so you can easily connect ideas and revise faster. With these methods, studying doesn’t just get easier—it starts to feel unfair.

Comment “ANKI” for more info!!👇🏼 My best tips: 1️⃣ To use Anki effectively, it is important to customize your cards to your preferred study pattern. There are lots of card types, but I personally prefer to use Basic, Cloze, and Image Occlusion. 2️⃣ It is also helpful to organize your decks to use spaced repetition to its fullest. I like to have lots of subcategories within my decks to allow me to focus more on certain areas that I am weaker on. 3️⃣ Use Anki every day!!! Consistency is key when it comes to Anki. 4️⃣ I like to make Anki cards as I listen to lectures, and I also use the pre-made deck Anking. This saves me a TON of time because I can essentially “take notes” directly in Anki by either creating new cards or customizing pre-made cards. 5️⃣ Finding classmates who use Anki can also be super helpful for swapping decks and studying together! At my medical school, we like to share Anki decks specific to our lecture material. I hope this was helpful 🫶🏼 Comment “ANKI” to learn more about how to set up Anki for medical school 🩺 #premed #medstudent #medicalschool #prehealth #premedlife #medicalstudent #futuredoctor #premedstudent #premedmotivation #medlife #medstudents #medstudentlife #medschool
