To find out, the @oceanx team surveyed the ecosystem from surface waters to nearly 4,000 meters deep. A CTD (Conductivity, Temperature and Depth) measured temperature and salinity and collected water samples through the water column. @tritonsubmarines submersible Nadir documented species along the slopes, while the ROV Neptune collected coral, sediment, and water from the seafloor. Working with @brin_indonesia, 16 scientists combined these datasets to map biodiversity in the region. Seamounts can be ecological hotspots, and establishing a baseline here supports conservation planning, fisheries management, and long-term ocean monitoring!
