🌤️🌈 Cool, calm, & 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒕𝒊𝒄 🧘🏼‍♀️ Disclaimer: This video is for humor and educational purposes only. In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), we never ignore dangerous behavior or signs of distress. Safety and emotional well-being always come first! The “ignore” strategy applies only to minor, attention-seeking behaviors—never to behaviors that could cause harm or signal that a child needs support. 💙

Educators, some behavior plans don’t reduce behaviors… they teach them. This student learned that one quick disruption = escape, attention, and a free pass out of class. He wasn’t being “defiant”… he was doing exactly what the plan rewarded. When we shifted the plan to something meaningful… reading to pre-K, planning lessons, organizing books, contributing… he showed up completely differently. Kids thrive when their systems make sense. Teachers thrive when those systems actually WORK. And that’s exactly what we help schools build with @teachtrainthrive

🌼Over 80% of our Behaviour Management is done👇 . 💛It wasn't until I was prepared for our SEND and Foster Children, that I realised the impact of being prepared for Behaviour Management and the difference it made. I spent years reacting to behaviour when it had happened, firefighting behaviour, when after studying neuroscience and the impact on being proactive, putting things in place and the difference that it makes, I can prevent behaviour struggles. . 👉Do a Behaviour Audit. Why do we waste weeks waiting to 'get to know the children' before doing anything? And I'm not sure about you, but I don't have the time. We complete a Behaviour Audit ASAP and create a Behaviour Plan. Download our free Beginners Guide to Behaviour Audits comment AUDIT. . 👉Teach Volume. It is a game changer for regulating hormones, stress levels, anxiety and behaviours. . 👉Visual pictures for ALL Behaviour Cues and Expectations. Children can not process verbal information and struggle to remember it. Visual Prompts can be processed into the childrens long term memory and remembered. . 👉Have your Behaviour Resources ready like a Welcome Pack, Movement Break Cards, Communication Cards, Task Management Chunking Cards, Neurodiverse Learners in The Mainstream Classroom Toolkit. (We are also creating a Foster Care and Looked After Children Toolkit, message me for details.) . 💛We have created an updated version of our Free Resources Pack and have a Behaviour Library packed to help you on your behaviour journey. The research at the end tho 😈 Here’s some info on a systematic literature review that dove into what is known as “borderline empathy”: enhanced empathy in spite of impaired interpersonal functioning. Journal of Personality Disorders (in press, July 2012) The Borderline Empathy Paradox: Evidence and Conceptual Models for Empathic Enhancements in Borderline Personality Disorder By Natalie Dinsdale and Bernard Crespi Abstract explanation: Based on the results of the review, and previous explanations for BPD symptoms, we propose a new model for explaining the borderline paradox: that a combination of increased attention to social stimuli and dysfunctional social information processing may account in part for the specific empathic enhancements and reduced overall social functioning in BPD. For me, recovering from these symptoms of my BPD has looked like placing boundaries on my empathy because it can cause me to be an extreme people pleaser and selfless in an unhealthy way. It’s also looked like creating major space between the immediate interpretations of my interpersonal interactions to give myself more control and more truth to my analysis and my response. Remember these two things: You’re a HUMAN first, and your unconscious is showing. ❤️Dr. Courtney Tracy @the.truth.doctor ______________________________ ☎️crisis line: @crisistextline 🎥my show: @truthdoctorshow #MentalHealthTips #SelfEsteem #MentalHealth #Psychology #Psychotherapy #TherapistsofInstagram #Therapist #Anxiety #CPTSD #Dissociation #Authenticity #SelfCompassion #BPD #OCD #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCare #Shame #HUMANFirst #Boundaries #MentalHealthMovement #SelfHealers #TheTruthDoctor #TraumaRecovery #YourUnconsciousIsShowing #Motivation

When the FBA is done, and they ask for the function…but the real function is avoiding the teacher who ignores their triggers 👀 ☠️ Behavior is communication. When students engage in escape/avoidance behaviors it’s often a response to an environment that feels overwhelming, unpredictable, or unsupportive. 😔 If a student is consistently trying to avoid a certain setting or person it’s worth asking: are the triggers being acknowledged? Are their needs being met? Proactive strategies like relationship building, clear expectations and supportive interventions can help reduce maintained behaviors in these cases. 🤗 It’s a delicate balance because it’s not always intentional, but it’s important to acknowledge when our own behaviors are contributing to the child’s behavior. It can be hard to share this info with a colleague and instead focusing on relationship building and avoiding triggers makes it less personal. 📋 Have you ever had to handle a situation like this, share below ⬇️ . . . . #schoolpsych #schoolpsychologist #bcba #aba #avoidance #escape #sped #specialed #specialeducation #iep #autism #eloper #elope #psych #childpsych #schoolcounselor #schoolsocialwork

A lot of challenging behavior comes from one thing:
Kids don’t actually understand the connection between their choices and what happens next. Here’s how I talk about it in a way that feels respectful and supportive: I start by introducing choices and consequences using neutral language. This might sound like this:
“Every choice leads to a consequence—some help us, some don’t.” Then I use real classroom examples of choices and consequences with my students. Usually we will co-create a chart together with one side labeled “Our Choices” and one side labeled “Our Consequences”. Here’s some examples: * Standing quietly in line → Gets to go to recess quickly * Ignoring directions to clean up → Takes longer to join centers * Sharing materials → Friend is happy and plays well with you * Hitting or grabbing → Needs to take a pause, and sit with Ms. Zarovska for a short reflection Then I let students PRACTICE making choices. Here’s what that usually looks like: * Role-play “helpful vs. unhelpful choices” scenarios * Discuss what happens after each choice * Ask: “What could happen if…?” “How would that feel?”
You don’t need more warnings or punishments—just clearer teaching, modeling, and discussion. 🤝 👇 If you want done-for-you lessons + printables to help with this, be sure to download my free Big 5 Behavior Bootcamp! If you repeat yourself daily, it’s not a behavior problem. It’s a design problem. The brain loves predictability. When classrooms feel unpredictable, stress rises. Stressed brains don’t learn well. Use the 4-Question Design Check: • Is it visible? • Is it predictable? • Is it automatic? • Is there a boundary? If not, you’re carrying the weight instead of the system. Save this for Monday. Predictability beats power. You should not have to use more energy to get less behavior change. If you want to build classrooms where the system carries the load, DM or comment PD and I’ll show you how.
