If we look at things from more of a learning lens it can be helpful! It’s hard to do though! #adhd #behaviorchange #parents #parenting #parentingtips

If we want the behavior to change, we must change how we see it. All behavior is a form of communication. Instead of reacting, become a behavior detective. Ask yourself: - Is this child scared? - Are they in their survival brain? - Are they seeking connection? Until we stop seeing behavior as something to "fix" and start seeing the need behind it, nothing will ever change. P.S. Comment "TRANSFORM" for my free guide: Transforming Challenging Behaviors.

🌤️🌈 Cool, calm, & 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒕𝒊𝒄 🧘🏼♀️ Disclaimer: This video is for humor and educational purposes only. In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), we never ignore dangerous behavior or signs of distress. Safety and emotional well-being always come first! The “ignore” strategy applies only to minor, attention-seeking behaviors—never to behaviors that could cause harm or signal that a child needs support. 💙

A couple of days ago I posted a video responding to how a mother handled her son spilling a drink. Some people were deeply concerned about how this boy would “learn accountability.” I’ve worked with kids for 15 years, and here’s the truth: telling a toddler “actually, you were the one who spilled it” or “you need to be accountable” doesn’t teach accountability. It teaches nothing, except that when they make a mistake, they can expect blame. If the spill was accidental (and it was), the real teaching happens later, when they’re calm and able to focus. Accountability is learned through showing them what to do, letting them practice, and reinforcing when they get it right. One moment doesn’t define a child’s character, but our response in that moment? That shapes how they see mistakes…as a chance to learn or as a reason to be shamed. PS: If telling kids they were wrong and to take accountability actually worked, you’d never have to say it twice. But we both know that’s not how it goes. Teach the skill, not just the lecture. Oh, and if we haven’t met yet—hi! I’m Jenna. I’m a behavior analyst, teacher, and mom. I started this account to help parents and educators with practical, evidence-based strategies that actually work, so you can enjoy more peaceful days without constant power struggles. So, if you’re looking for real-life, easy-to-follow tips (without the fluff), you’re in the right place! #behavior #aba #bcba #behavioranalyst #parentsofinstagram #toddlersofinsta

Stitch w/ @casualwithacoffee When moments like this happen, our response isn’t just about today’s spill. It’s shaping what our kids learn about how to handle mistakes, disagreements, and tension. If she had argued back, her child would’ve learned: When something goes wrong, the goal is to win the argument. Whoever talks the loudest, “wins.” By calmly moving forward, she taught something entirely different: We can disagree without it becoming a fight. A mistake doesn’t have to derail the moment. Kids watch how we respond when things don’t go our way. That’s the behavior they’ll copy later…with us, with friends, with teachers, with coaches, with coworkers, with their own kids someday. The way we handle the small stuff becomes their example for the big stuff. Follow @ABAnaturally for proven behavior strategies that actually help. ✨ The Levels of Prompting – Step by Step Toward Independence Every child learns differently — that’s why we use different levels of prompts to guide them 👉 Full Physical Prompt: We start by gently helping them complete the task hand-over-hand. 👉 Partial Physical Prompt: Then, we give less support by just a touch or a gesture. 👉 Gestural Prompt: Next, we show them what to do. 👉 Verbal Prompt: We guide them using words or cues. 👉 Independent: Finally! they do it all by themselves! The goal is always fading the prompts gradually until the child feels confident, capable, and independent #rehabilitation #occupationaltherapy #abatherapy #speechtherapy #specialeducation #behavioralanalysis #uae #childdevelopment
