3 extra tips to help you with praise ⤵️ 1. Skip the generic “good job.” Phrases like “good job” or “great work” don’t tell kids what behavior you want to see again. Instead, describe the exact action and keep your praise varied. For example: ⭐ “You got up right away when I asked you to brush your teeth. That was amazing!” ⭐ “You put your book away without me asking. That was so helpful.” This way, your child connects the praise to the specific behavior you want them to repeat. 2. Don’t praise every single time. If you praised every little thing, it would feel less genuine and start to lose its power. Kids (and teens) can tell when it’s forced. Aim for balance…praise enough that they feel noticed and encouraged, but not so often that it sounds automatic.  One way to think about it: focus on praising new skills, effort with something challenging, or behaviors that don’t yet happen consistently. Once the behavior becomes routine, you can decrease your praise and let the natural reinforcement (pride, accomplishment, smoother routines) carry more of the weight. 3. Use indirect praise when needed. Some kids, especially in a classroom, don’t like being singled out. You can still highlight their work without making them uncomfortable. One strategy is to use their work as an example during a lesson. You don’t even have to say their name. For instance, if you’re teaching how to write the letter t, you could hold up their notebook and say: ⭐ “Let’s make sure we cross the line toward the top of the letter like this.” They’ll recognize it’s their work being modeled, but the attention feels less direct. P.S. If we haven’t met yet—hi! I’m Jenna. I’m a behavior analyst, teacher, and mom. I started this account to help parents and educators with practical, evidence-based strategies that actually work, so you can enjoy more peaceful days without constant power struggles. So if you’re looking for real-life, easy-to-follow tips (without the fluff), you’re in the right place! #behavior #bcba #parentsofinstagram

Practicing with compassion means demonstrating patience and modeling calmness while treating individuals with respect and dignity. It is important to train clinicians on how to respond proactively to crisis situations in order to ensure safety and supportive environments. Lack of training can create hazardous situations for both clinicians and children, resulting in poor practices. This often contributes to the negative perceptions of the application of Behavior Analysis in children on the Autism Spectrum. Severe behavior can be influenced by many factors beyond the scope of ABA. Therefore, coordinating care with other professionals and adopting a multidisciplinary approach is essential. However, one thing we can control during therapy is our method, ensuring it is rooted in compassion and understanding. 🚨Disclaimer: This video has been shared with the consent of the child’s parent for training purposes. ⚡️ happy World Behavior Analysis Day What kind of BCBA are you?? Basically I am a school based BCBA who is compassionate and trauma informed, I love my greens, and prioritize keeping my learners happy relaxed and engaged. I like to problem solve as a team and show flexibility in my plans. I focus on reinforcing the adult behaviors as they implement plans and model for them as much as possible. I always try to get to the root of the problem while prioritizing safety for everyone. NOT I am not clipboard and data obsessed, I don’t focus on compliance and robotic responses or implementation, I don’t believe my learners should do things just because I said so and my plans are not a one size fits all type of plan. I don’t believe in yelling at learners, and I won’t make you figure it out on your own. I’m not a my way or the highway type of BCBA who believes in punishment procedures over reinforcement, and I most likely won’t tell you to ignore the child it’s just for attention. #schoolbasedbcba #bcba #behavioranalyst #behaviorinschools #worldbehavioranalysisday #worldbehavioranalysisday2025 #behavioranalysis #behaviorspecialist #specialeducationteacher #education #bcbalife #lifeofabcba #proudtobeabehavioranalyst

🌤️🌈 Cool, calm, & 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒕𝒊𝒄 🧘🏼‍♀️ Disclaimer: This video is for humor and educational purposes only. In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), we never ignore dangerous behavior or signs of distress. Safety and emotional well-being always come first! The “ignore” strategy applies only to minor, attention-seeking behaviors—never to behaviors that could cause harm or signal that a child needs support. 💙

The medication argument is a valid one, but the explicit teaching is equally important. Regardless of medication, kid’s with ADHD have a skill deficit. Therefore they need explicit instruction and options for organization, planning and processing and time blindness! Dynamic Duo Alert! 🤪🤝 RBTs and BCBAs work TOGETHER to support our families that we serve here at Team PBS. ⬇️ What is an RBT? RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior-analytic services. The RBT does NOT design intervention or assessment plans. They collect data based on programs designed by the supervising BCBA across multiple sessions. This data supports their supervising BCBA in making data-based decisions for their client's programs! ⬇️ What is a BCBA? A BCBA is authorized to practice behavior-analytic services independently and to supervise the work of BCaBAs (Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts), Registered Behavior Technicians), and other professionals implementing behavior-analytic interventions. They provide supervision to RBTs and adjust and create programs as needed based on data collected by RBTs across sessions. Are you an RBT, BCBA, or looking to join the field? Tips for a new Behavior Analyst (BCBA) 📝 •Always carry a healthy level of skepticism. Even “evidence-based practices” shouldn’t be taken at face value (I’ll discus further on another post). •Be open to new research and new perspectives ABA has evolved from the days of rigid Behavior Modification methods and it’s important that as clinicians, we are always looking to evolve as well. •Collaborate with other disciplines, keep a pulse on what is working and what isn’t, and use the foundational knowledge you’ve acquired in behavior science to shape your own therapeutic approach. As a behavior analyst, I’m here to tell you: all behavior ha
6,970

As a behavior analyst, I’m here to tell you: all behavior happens for a reason and it’s different for every child. There’s no one size fits all solution. You can’t put a cast on an arm that isn’t broken. Most challenging behaviors happen because kids don’t yet have the words to say what they need. Someone took their toy? They might hit to get it back because they didn’t say, “Can I have that?” Mom turned away? They might bite her arm because they didn’t say “Mom!” or tap her shoulder to get her attention. Here’s how I respond intentionally and you can too: 1. Write down what happened right before the behavior 2. Then write what the child did (bite, hit, throw, etc.) 3. Ask: What could they do instead? Could they ask for a turn? Ask for attention appropriately? Request something they want? That’s how behavior change happens by teaching real-life skills that replace the challenging behaviors. Feeling stuck with your child’s behavior? Tried everything and nothing has worked yet? Comment READY. I coach parents with kids ages 2-6 through this process to understand your child’s behavior behavior and respond in ways that actually reduce challenging moments. #childdevelopment #childbehavior #toddlers #preschoolers #kindergarteners #newparents #parentingtips #parentinghacks #behavioranalysis #behavioranalyst #parentcoach #tantrums #parentstruggles #positiveparenting #parentingstyle #dadsofinstagram #moms
