Whenever I consistently rock a braid-out, my hair gets so long - quickly! 🙌🏽 But it’s not because braid-outs magically speed up my hair’s growth—it’s all about length retention, which (in my opinion) is the most important factor when it comes to growing your hair. If you’re trying to grow your hair this year, here’s why braid-outs might be the game-changer you need: ✨ The Products: I use curl creams for braid-outs. These products are usually super nourishing and moisturising, with a light hold rather than a strong gel cast. A heavy gel cast I believe can increase breakage as it hardens the hair, making it more prone to snapping. With curl creams, the hair stays soft and movable, reducing breakage. ✨ Low Manipulation: Sometimes I leave the braids in for 2-3 days if I’m not going anywhere. This allows my hair to rest without being touched or styled. When it is time to style, the stretched state of the hair makes it easier to part, section, and slick back with minimal manipulation. Less manipulation means less breakage means more length retention! ✨ Fewer Tangles: Even if I rock a braid-out all week, my hair tangles way less compared to a wash & go. That means detangling is quicker, easier, and requires less work - again, reducing breakage and helping me retain more length. So basically, braid-outs help me keep the length I’ve already grown by reducing manipulation and preventing breakage. Just remember: your hair is always growing.
