Coastal carpet python pulling up on a brush tailed possum in the middle of the women’s toilets, at an undisclosed campground near Wivenhoe, QLD Australia. It's a good thing this was recorded during the day, because if this was at night you could probably convince the vatican to send an exorcist. The daylight exposes this for what it is, but more importantly for what it is not: a class 6 free floating apparition. This possum has some heft, but that might be because it's not alone: the carpet python killed a female with a (still living) joey. The fact that the snake dropped it gave the folks watching enough time to rescue the joey while still letting the carpet python keep its lunch. I’m not usually an advocate for human interference, but if there were a “right” way to do it, this would be it. These two are just getting to know each other a bit and doing a bit of cuddling. I'm not sure if Dandy will give us eggs this year, but I can definitely pray 🙏 can't I? 🤪 What I have found is that carpet pythons need time to get to know each other before doing the deed. 2 male Carpet pythons fighting over nearby female and break through the roof by accident 🙈🐍🐍 I was called out to a home in Lake MacDonald last night to relocate this cheeky body that had fallen through the roof. The residents here weren’t too worried about snakes but this pair falling through the ceiling into the bathroom wasn’t ideal. During breeding season (Spring) when a female Carpet pythons is ovulating she will attract males to her to mate with her. Boys will fight over her for the right to mate with her. 🤓Morelia spilota mcdowelli 🐍 We disturbed a resident Coastal Carpet Python under the tarp in the yard. I was under the impression they hibernated in winter. 🤔 After a little study I found out about Brumation!! ⬇️ Brumation is described as a state of sluggishness or inactivity exhibited in reptiles during winter or extended periods of low temperatures. It is a type of hibernation (a period of reduced activity or inactivity) for ectotherms, animals that regulate their body temperature using their environment, commonly referred to as “cold-blooded” animals. Snakes in SEQ (sth east Queensland) will enter a state of brumation, but will still be seen sunning themselves on warm winter days. (WildlifeQLD.com.au) So I’ve learnt some amazing facts about our native carpet Python 🐍 mates. And saved this cutie from a flock of birds telling her off.
