Tips for knitting colorwork⬇️ 1) Don’t let your stitches bunch up on your needles. Right before you change colors, spread the stitches out that are on your needles. This will help create even floats! 2) Color dominance does make a difference to the stitch definition. Make sure that your main color floats pass over the top of the contrast color floats. To help keep track, knit in English style for the main color and continental style for the contrast color. 3) Swatch and block before starting the project. Your tension will likely differ quite a bit from your usual tension when knitting colorwork so make sure to check your gauge. This will also allow you to figure out if the colors will bleed at all. It’s much better to find out from a swatch than a sweater. Update // The Darling Sweater pattern is out now! Genious knitting hack? Look no further! When knitting #colourwork , twisting yarns to catch floats annoyed me big time, especially when using more than two colours! I just HAD to find another way and since I tried the following, I never went back: 1. knit first row/round in pattern as usual 2. In the next row, knit in pattern until the middle of the float you created in the row/round before 3. Pick up the float and knit it together with your current stitch. That’s it! 🥳 The float is now secure but not stuck! it’s rather gently hugged and guided and won’t take away any stretchyness. I hope this helps and makes your knitting less finicky and more flowy! #strandedknitting #colourworkknitting #fairisleknitting #sockknitting #knittinghack

I’ve knit piles of colorwork sweaters, hats, mittens, and socks, and I never catch my floats. If your tension is correct, your floats will sit neatly against the fabric and won’t hang around looking for fingers to tangle up in. And if you use non-superwash wool, the floats will quickly start sticking to the fabric, and there will be even less of a chance that they will snag on something. The sweater I am knitting here is called Eldfjall. The pattern will be released on February 10th. The yarn is @kelbournewoolens Scout. #knit #knitting #colorworkknitting
