Ferocactus glaucescens, the glaucous barrel cactus. This species is native to the limestone hills and dry forest of Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí states of Mexico at elevations of 550 to 2300 meters. 🌵 With a warmer than normal winter coupled with abundant rain, the blue barrel cactus is about to put on a prolonged show of flowers. Eriosyce aurata, commonly referred to as the golden cactus, is a spherical cactus species endemic to Chile, characterized by its thick spines resembling those of Shredder from the Ninja Turtles, although it is not as golden as its name implies. Trichocereus amazonas, a one of a kind plant grown from seed taken from BBG 65.0729. BBG 65.0729 was collected by Paul Hutchison and Kenneth Wright in 1964 in the Amazonas Department of Peru and brought to the Berkeley Botanical Garden in 1965. The mother plant at the BBG is no longer there but we have this beautiful open pollinated seedling.
