A C-Section shelf is NOT laziness. It’s NOT “you didn’t work hard enough.” It’s scar tissue + stretched skin + healing fascia. And yes — it’s common. If you see a small overhang above your C-section scar, you did nothing wrong. Your body went through surgery. It healed layer by layer. What actually helps: ✔️ Scar mobility (after full healing) ✔️ Gentle daily massage (5–10 minutes) ✔️ Deep core activation ✔️ Time — collagen remodeling continues for up to 1–2 years Do these only once your gynaecologist or physiotherapist has given clearance. Stop punishing your body. Start understanding it. Save this before starting random ab workouts. #CSectionShelf #CSectionRecovery #PostpartumRecovery #CSectionScar #ScarMassage MommyPooch PostpartumBelly DiastasisRecti PostpartumFitness PelvicFloorHealth CoreRehab DoctorMom WomenHealthIndia IndianMoms PostpartumJourney MummyTummy HealingAfterBaby Rebirth365

The post-C-section instructions you deserved but never got… I was shocked. No one told me how to actually care for my scar. No one told me the shelf was a thing. No one told me that I could actually do something so my scar wasn’t numb, tight and felt foreign. Which is ridiculous. I have given post op instructions for years. What I got was close to nothing. So if you’re in the same boat after C-section- confused, a little scared and wanting changes.. Here are the 5 things I’d do immediately to support healing and minimize the C-shelf 👇 1️⃣ 360 breathing — start strengthening your core and mobilizing your scar internally 2️⃣ Nerve desensitization — so your scar doesn’t stay numb, tingly, or hypersensitive forever 3️⃣ Light walking daily — to get blood flow going and ease swelling (even 5 minutes counts) and minimize other postop complications 4️⃣ Gentle compression — like an abdominal binder or high-waisted compression stockings to reduce swelling and help decrease pain (be sure it is light compression) 5️⃣ Hydrate + eat enough protein — your body just went through major surgery. It needs the right fuel to repair tissue and heal. Also! You don’t need to wait for your 6-week checkup to begin healing. You don’t need to feel stuck in a body that doesn’t feel like yours. And you definitely don’t need to do this alone. That’s exactly why as an NP, I created the Complete Scar Healing Guide. so you finally have the step-by-step tools to start healing after C-section, know how to care for your scar, flatten the shelf, and feeling GOOD again in your body. 👉 Comment “HEAL” and I’ll send you the link! C-section numbness is so common… but it doesn’t have to be permanent 💛 After a C-section, the small nerves in the skin are cut during surgery. As they heal, they can become a little “quiet” — which is why your tummy might feel numb, tingly, or just not quite like your own. One simple way to help? ✨ Sensory retraining. Using different textures over the numb area — think cotton, a towel, a soft brush, even your fingertips — gently stimulates the healing nerves. This gives your brain updated information and encourages those nerve pathways to “wake up” and reconnect. Start light. Stay consistent. Gradually introduce different pressures and textures. Your nervous system LOVES repetition. Your scar isn’t just something to look at — it’s something to reconnect with 💕 #csectionrecovery #womenshealthphysio #postpartumhealing #scarrecovery #postpartumbody

Comment REHABTIME and I’ll send you my FREE C-Section guide to help you get started with recovery TODAY! SHARE this with a friend who needs it!! 🩷🩷 and make sure to FOLLOW @doclizziedpt for more tips on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and women’s health pelvic floor guidance! Typically I recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before doing any sort of formal rehab after a cesarean birth. This allows you to truly rest. But start when you feel ready! And these are great rehab exercises to utilize. Having a c-section (planned or unplanned) is a major abdominal surgery. Plus on top of that you now have a newborn to care for! And you need care too mama… When it comes to c-section healing postpartum, there are several things we want to keep in mind with rehab: ✨ Scar work progressions ✨ Mobility for the scar ✨ Deep core/pelvic floor connection (pelvic floor issues absolutely can arise after a C-section…unfortunately we aren’t “in the clear” just because we didn’t birth vaginally) ✨ Manual therapy and fascial techniques ✨ Full body connection due to the disruption in the fascial train from the surgery There is more to postpartum healing than just “doing some exercises”. There are nuances to rehab that offer long term results WITHOUT having issues down the line. YOU are worth the investment in your longterm health, friend. 👉 If you’re looking for guidance that simplifies the rehab, I’d love to help! As a pelvic floor PT, I have helped 1000’s of women recovery from a cesarean birth (and vaginal birth). And I’ve taken all those tools and packaged them into a nice and neat program for YOU! Head to the link in my bio for more on MIND BODY CORE. ⁉️ Were you given any guidance on how to recovery after your c-section?! This is our bread and butter as a pelvic floor PT: to teach you how to transfer safely and restore your core and pelvic floor. ***notice how I EXHALE when I push to sit up (protecting the core). Comment FOUNDATION and I’ll send you my free c-section guide PLUS the program that will get you through and help you find that strength and confidence again! I’ll go ahead and send the LYMPH DRAINAGE video that is super helpful for c-sections! Oftentimes #csection moms are given minimal guidance on how to move or change things up at home. But this one tip on how to transfer can help SO MUCH with decreasing core recruitment and incisional pulling. I know c-section moms deserve more, you deserve to be fully guided and held. And inside the @mindbodycore.app C-SECTION program, we do just that. From how to move around or pick up your baby after surgery, to fully guided scar healing, to restoring your core and DR with a c-section scar in mind! No time for exercise after your C-section? I get it, mama — especially if you’ve got a newborn (and maybe a toddler… or twins 😅). That’s why a simple 5-minute routine, repeated daily, can make a big difference for: 💜 The C-section shelf 💜 Scar tightness or pain 💜 Core weakness and disconnection Here’s a quick example (perfect if you’ve just been cleared by your doctor 👇): 1️⃣ Scar Massage — Start with a gentle technique like Erase the Marker. It helps soften scar tissue and reminds your body it’s safe to lengthen again. 2️⃣ Movement — Follow with a gentle core exercise like Standing Side Bends. This teaches your body to hold those new changes — not slip back into tension. 🔥 Pro Tip: Massage alone won’t do much if you don’t move afterward. Movement locks in your progress. C-section recovery doesn’t have to be complicated — not the way I teach it. 😉 💬 Comment "SHELF WORKSHOP" below, and I’ll send you my free training on how to start C-section–specific recovery safely — to ease tension and begin improving your scar’s appearance today. #csectionshelf #postpartumhealing #csectionrecovery #betterrecovery #5minuteroutine #csectionscarmassage #csectionexercise #csectionbelly #csectionoverhang #csectionstrong #askjanette #csectiontherapist #perinataltherapy

Listen up C-section moms ⬇️ Most moms don’t realize this, but a lot of C-shelf changes come from stuck, tight scar tissue and adhesions — not from “extra fat” or something they did wrong. And one small upgrade can make your scar work more effective over time: ✨ Applying gentle heat before massage helps the tissue relax. It improves circulation, softens the area slightly, and makes the scar more responsive to massage. Does heat magically erase a C-shelf? No. But does it help your massage work with the tissue instead of against it? Absolutely. How to do it: 🔥 Warm (not hot) compress for 5–10 minutes 💆‍♀️ Follow with 3–5 minutes of scar massage Start light → increase pressure gradually as your body allows Consistency > intensity every time Over time, moms often notice: ✔ a softer, more mobile scar ✔ less pulling/tightness ✔ improved sensation ✔ the lower belly looking smoother as adhesions release You grew a human. You went through major surgery. You deserve a body that feels good again — not tight, numb, or “stuck.” And if you want more than just a massage routine… 👉 Comment HEAL and I’ll send you the Complete Scar Healing Blueprint — in depth NP-designed guide to C-section recovery, scar mobility, nerve healing, swelling reduction, AND step-by-step strategies to flatten the C-shelf safely. It’s everything you should have been told postpartum… all in one place. Disclaimer: Educational only. Not medical advice. Always consult your provider before starting scar massage.

Is a C-section really “easy”? Not even close. People love to say, “At least you didn’t really give birth.” What they don’t see is that a C-section is major abdominal surgery done while you’re awake, emotional, and about to meet the most important human of your life. To deliver a baby, surgeons carefully pass through multiple layers: Skin → Fat → Fascia → Muscle → Peritoneum → Uterus → Amniotic sac → Baby That’s not “one cut.” That’s your body being opened layer by layer, and then expected to heal while you’re bleeding, sleep-deprived, breastfeeding, and suddenly responsible for a newborn. Physically, recovery can mean weeks of pain, limited movement, nerve sensitivity, scar healing, and a higher risk of infection or complications. Psychologically, many mothers carry invisible wounds: grief over a birth plan they didn’t choose, feelings of failure fueled by societal judgment, anxiety, or delayed bonding all while being told to “just be grateful.” This isn’t weakness. This is resilience under pressure. Understanding what a C-section really involves leads to: • More respect for mothers • Realistic recovery expectations • Better postpartum mental health support • Informed, compassionate birth conversations A mother who had a C-section didn’t take the easy way out. She took the way that kept her baby, and herself alive. 👉 Save this for later 👉 Tag someone who thinks a C-section is “easy” 💬 Which part of this did you not know before?

😣 Just had a C-section... and wondering how to get rid of that swollen, saggy belly? You're sore. You're shocked. And your stomach doesn’t even feel like your own anymore. Mama. I hear you. And I’ve got you. Here’s a simple 5 Minute Routine you can start now (yes, even just days after surgery 👇): ✅ Piano Keys – this isn’t just scar massage... it’s gentle lymphatic drainage. It’s how you get swelling OUT. (And guess what? Swelling = Shelf. So let’s move it OUT.) ✅ Seated Cat/Cow – Stuck in a chair most of the day? Perfect. This chair-friendly move helps tell your forming scar tissue to soften up. (Tight scar = big Shelf – we don’t want that.) That’s it. Just 5 intentional minutes, every day. Because real #csectionrecovery isn’t complicated. ...Not the way I teach it. 💜 ✨ Ready to start your healing from the inside out? ❗ Most C-section moms have THIS hidden pain - and doctors won’t tell you why You know that mysterious pain between your scar and belly button? The one that hurts for waaaay longer than the actual scar itself? Well, that’s COMMON - and here’s why: 🤯 There are ACTUALLY 4 CUTS that happen during your C-section: 1. The External Incision - This is the ONLY ONE YOU CAN SEE - the horizontal line just above your pubic bone. It goes through skin and fat. Most doctors only mention this one when discussing recovery. 2. The Myofascial Incision - Here’s the hidden truth: There’s a SECOND horizontal cut made through your muscle covering (the fascia). It’s located 2-3 inches ABOVE your visible scar. This one causes most of your lingering pain! P.S. - If you’re feeling pain or tightness above your C-section scar months later, you’re not imagining it. It’s this hidden incision causing problems. Follow for more education about Cesarean birth and comment below if this describes YOUR experience - I want to know how many women are dealing with this! 3. The Vertical Cut - Your abdominal muscles are separated vertically down the middle (through the linea alba). That’s right - right through your DIASTASIS. 4. The Uterine Cut - The deepest incision goes through your uterus itself. Yes, scar tissue holds it together. No, you can’t really massage this deep. Let me be clear: That pain and tightness across your middle? The lingering pulling when you stand or do Cobra? The pain that “shouldn’t be there” according to your doctor? ➡️ It’s probably from incision #2 - the one nobody talks about. So. Stop wondering why you still hurt months after surgery... ...This hidden incision is the missing piece of your recovery puzzle.... ...DO SCAR MASSAGE. 🔥 ⭐ Comment below if you feel this mysterious pain just above your external incision - let’s get real about what’s happening inside our bodies! #csectionrecovery #scarmassage #csectionshelfpain #csectionscar #cesareanbirth #csectionshelf #csectionmom #csectionhealing #askjanette #perinataltherapy
