As the countdown to WAVES Summit 2025 begins, the top five winners of the TruthTell Hackathon have just been announced. This global tech challenge—organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting along with the India Cellular and Electronics Association—aims to tackle the growing problem of misinformation and fake media using AI tools. Among the winners is Team Alchemist, a group of students from @upes_dehradun University in Dehradun, who built a tool called Veristream. A few months ago, Databricks committed to investing over $1 billion in San Francisco over the next three years. One of those key investments is their annual Data + AI summit, which brings more than 20,000 people to our city. They considered taking it elsewhere—but Databricks knows what we know: San Francisco is the place to be. These types of commitments will drive our recovery, and it was an honor to speak at the conference today.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, pointed out a surprising limitation in artificial intelligence (AI). While AI can generate deepfake images and analyze medical reports, it struggles with something as simple as drawing a person writing with their left hand. Co-chairing the summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, PM Modi conducted a small experiment to illustrate AI's shortcomings. He explained: "If you upload your medical report to an AI app, it can explain in simple language, free of any jargon, what it means for your health." However, he then highlighted a curious flaw in AI’s ability to generate images: "But if you ask the same app to draw an image of someone writing with their left hand, the app will most likely draw someone writing with their right hand." He attributed this issue to AI's training data, explaining that the AI is trained on datasets dominated by right-handed images.
