🌿 What is Eco-Somatics? 🌿 Eco-Somatics merges the field of somatics and deep ecology. Somatics recognises the body as a source of knowing, a source of wisdom or innate intelligence from which we can orient our lives 💃 Whereas Deep Ecology is a study of philosophy that understands our interconnectedness with all of life, and that there is intrinsic value and even consciousness that exists in the wider ecology. So eco-somatics acknowledges that the way in which we understand and PRACTICE our interconnectedness to the animate world is through our bodies, and that conceptual understanding through the mind is NOT enough to create restoration in our personal lives and in culture. Thus, eco-somatics is an incredibly healing modality because one of the most primal wounds that we carry as humans is the wound of separation or disconnection. And the impact of that is not hard to find... Most modern humans suffer from the belief that they just don’t belong, they aren’t connected to a specific place or landscape, and they feel disembodied from their internal ecology as a result of trauma, shame or fear. So this work of eco-somatics can be incredibly healing for us personally. But I’ve also found in my PhD on this topic, that coming home to the earth through our embodied practice is actually restorative to the Earth herself. And if you’re interested in how this is possible - I invite you to join my upcoming masterclass on The EARTHED Framework 🌀 ✅ In this masterclass, I take you step-by-step through an experiential map for bridging nature and culture in our personal life and in culture. This is the EXACT SAME framework that guides all my in-person immersions which normally cost over $2000! But you are getting access to it for the first time online for a crazily low price! 😍🥳 👉 Check out the link in my bio or highlights for more info The LIVE Masterclass will be on April 15th, 9:30am AEST Recording is available if you can't join live #ecosomatics #somaticecology #natureculture #rewilding #wildwoman #somatics #deepecology 🇲🇽 Earrings by @mother.sierra

Something y’all may not know about me is that my research is based in wetlands! Although I am a lepidopterist at heart, I currently do research on aquatic entomology. I love wetlands and I’m honestly considering sticking with aquatics in graduate school :P Tags: #wetlands #wetlandconservation #aquatic #aquaticentomology #entomology #entomologist #ecology #ecosystems

The ecological and the sacred were never meant to be separate. For most of human history, they were the same conversation. Colonialism changed that. It took away our land, and the frameworks through which we understood it. It severed the sacred from the ecological and called that progress. Aranyani sits at the place where they meet again. We hold science, traditional knowledge, and the ecological rigour. And alongside it, the sacred. This is our most decolonial act. It is how we see, and how we tell our stories.

For most of human history, we’ve tried to invent solutions by starting from scratch. But nature has been solving problems for millions of years. Stronger materials. Better healing systems. Perfectly balanced ecosystems. That’s where the idea of bio-prospecting comes in. Instead of forcing answers, you observe. You study how plants, fungi, and bacteria already solve problems… and you learn from them. Like being a nature detective. Scientists explore forests, oceans, soil, even landfills, asking simple but powerful questions: Sometimes the most surprising discoveries come from the most unexpected places. The smartest inventor on Earth has never been us. It’s nature. #bioprospecting #biomimicry #nature #nextgeneration #newparadigm

And series are back! This time with something a little different - ecological terms There are many terms ecologists, biologists and environmentalists use, so I decided to bring them closer to you #ecologyterminology

Eyespy a caterpillar 🐛👀 New research in the Journal of Animal Ecology explores how animals use a combination of colour patterns, like eyespots that resemble the eyes of larger animals, and specific behaviours to protect themselves from predators. But these colours may work differently depending on the animal's behaviour or where it lives. The study focused on using artificial caterpillars that build ‘leaf rolls’ to create a specific visual environment, hiding their bodies and reducing bird attacks. This research highlights the importance of studying animals in their natural environments. It’s not just about colour patterns but how they work in combination with behaviours like hiding or modifying habitats. Thank you for coming to my TED talk (again) . . . Full video on my page with an extra full minute of a deeper in-depth explanation. Cut this one shorter than 3min so it would “be shown to new audiences” :) #ecosystem #economy #services #science #biology

Confessions of an ecology student 👇 ☀️It it not all the perfect study field or job like it is portrayed on the internet. The class can demand a good amount of time and focus to perform well, such as the work not always being bright and shiny outside, but a good majority of it is done behind computer 🖥️ 🌎 Field work isn't always going well. Yes, field work is fun but it also rhymes with surprises (let's pretend it does) - you will always be surprised, good or bad, while working : too hot, too cold, animals or no animals, difficulty with the materials, etc. ➕Don't go in ecology to escape math, they will follow you right there alongside so chemistry and other notion (but less present indeed). A good part of being an ecologist is to understand equations and how you can apply them in R ( so programmation program indeed!) to make various analysis on animals. There are some things I would've liked to know before, I don't think it would have influenced my decision, but it definitely helps to come better prepared 🙌 Follow @arteimea to see the life of a student in ecology alongside drawings and animal fact 🦦 #wildlifeillustrator #ecology #biologystudent #ecologystudent #wildlife
