Remember that backing up while maintaining eye contact with your dog will invite them into your space. Instead moving forward towards them will deter the dog from jumping on you and invading your space. “But Ian, I have a dog that’s over 100lbs and I’m 5 feet tall” It’s not about your physical size and it’s not about waiting until the dog has jumped up on you. If your large dog is walking/trotting towards you when they get about 6 feet away and you know they are going to jump…… Take a confident step forward and say (not yell) “nope”. How to teach "legs" trick 👇 OR the command of your choosing 👌 This is especially effective with the bigger dogs rather than the traditional "centre" trick 1️⃣ Lure your dog to the side of you. Train your dog to sit on cue ⬇️ 1. Wait for your dog to offer a sit 2. Be ready to mark and reward as soon as their butt touches the floor 3. Toss a treat away from them to reset for another rep 4. Add the cue, ‘sit!’ right before your dog offers the sit reliably. Tip: set up a low distraction environment and meet your pups needs before a training session in order to set them up to provide what you’re looking for!
