Double Unders got you feeling 😪? Try these drills: Start with penguin taps to drill rhythm. Making sure your hands hit your side twice before your feet hit the floor. Use a resistance band to practice arms close to your body. The wider your arms get, you he shorter your rope gets. Keep your eyes up and not looking down at your feet. Think about punching down with your wrists instead of turning your wrists. Most importantly, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Struggling with double unders? Chances are you’re deviating too much from your basic bounce form or not bounding high enough. It could also be that your basic bounce isn’t really good enough or fast enough to be attempting double unders yet. Take your time and don’t overthink it 🙅🏼♀️ A great drill is: 4 quick single unders then 1 double under. Keep repeating this and, once comfortable, you can reduce the single unders between the double unders until you’re doing double unders consecutively 👊🏼 5mm pvc jump ropes are great for learning double unders. For those who want to max them out for competition (hey crossfitters!), wire ropes are great once proficient but tricky to learn on so do consider pvc to start with. Love them or hate them.. But mastering Double Unders is key for performance in Crossfit. 👉🏼 If you are learning how to do them or struggling to link them consistently, these are 3 of my top cues to improve Double Unders. 🔝 1: Look 🆙: When we look down it’s easier to get uncoordinated and trip. By looking up we open our body position, reducing our cycling pace slightly and therefore allowing more time for the rope to go under our feet. 2: Bounce from your ankles and keep your feet together: High knee jumps mught get you some reps, but they are more energy demanding and they also increase contact time with the ground, making it more likely for you to trip with the rope. By bouncing of our ankles we will not only be more efficient at the movement, but we will also trip less and get more unbroken reps. 🤩 3: Bring your arms in: When we open our arms we create a wider and lower arch with the rope, making it more likely to trip, as there is less space and time to nail the jump. When we bring our elbows in we create a higher arch, which makes it easier to have good timing and it’s also less shoulder demanding. 🙏 Sometimes we can fix one movement by making small adjustments to its execution. That’s why I encourage all of my athletes to send me videos, so I can give them feedback and those little cues that end up making the difference.
