Here’s why It’s super important to keep the roots of your locs separated : Locs don’t grow out of the scalp in a pre-dreadlocked state, so as your hair grows, the roots will get loose and start sticking together, which pulls your scalp in weird ways and causes discomfort. Plus, if you’re not careful, two locs can merge into one and create what I call a “dread lump.” Keeping those roots separated is a must, especially if you don’t get your locs maintained often. It’ll save you from long, painful maintenance sessions later on. My client here hadn’t had his locs maintained for nearly a year, leading to significant hair growth and and roots beginning to intertwine. This was a detailed and time-intensive session, but I thoroughly enjoyed the process of bringing his locs back to life.
