#Egg Donation Process Explained

Of course I debated if this is something I wanted to share and then after doing some research I learned that only 9% of donor eggs in America come from African American donors and that there was clearly a need. I’ve thought about donating my eggs since college but of course when I brought it up to my mom, she psyched me out of it. I’m glad she did because I also realized that I would’ve preferred to have a chid of my own first. Almost ten years later I had Dax and the thought resurfaced. I did tons and tons of research and kept going back and forth deciding if this is something I really wanted to do. I told myself that I had up until 30 to decide, so in the last quarter of 2024 I finally made the decision. The hardest part was choosing which donor bank I wanted to work with: because there are tons. I finally decided on Fairfax Egg Bank and I’m glad I did. The application process took a little over 3 months, which makes sense. They completed extensive medical examinations, psych evals, interviews and ancestral research before they came to their decision. I probably won’t be able to go in depth on the entire process in this caption (so stay tuned for another reel) but it’s such a rewarding feeling knowing that I’m able to help a family in need. I know a lot of people have their opinions on this and there’s a lot going around about this procedure but this is a decision I’m proudly making and highly encourage other women of color to look into it if eligible. I’m currently in the process of taking my hormonal shots to prepare for extraction. “They won’t look like you…” Those were the words that echoed in my mind when I first began considering egg donation. It was something I had to sit with—to process deeply and honestly.
