Equal Pay Day should be January 1st ☝️ Right now, women have to work months into the next year, just to earn what men made the year before. Even when qualifications, experience, and job roles are the same, women still get paid less. And this can affect families, businesses, and the economy as a whole. What can we do? 1. Advocate for salary transparency. 2. Support policies that promote equal pay. 3. Encourage negotiation for all. 4. Hold companies accountable. Equal pay benefits everyone. Let’s close the gap #EqualPayday #EqualPayday2025 #EqualWorkPay #Women #WomensHistoryMonth #NerdWallet #GenderPayGap

Imagine giving 100% and getting paid like you gave 89%. In 2024 in Canada, women aged 25 to 54 working full-time had earned, on average, just 89 cents for every dollar men earned. Even in high-ranking roles, the gap is still there. And in low-wage jobs… it’s worse. For over four decades, greater participation of women in the workforce has accounted for one-third of Canada’s economic growth. Equal effort deserves equal reward. 📣💰Today is Equal Pay Day! Equal Pay Day symbolizes how much longer into 2026 a woman must work to earn what a man earned in 2025. In Ontario, women must work an average of 15.5 months – an additional 3.5 months into the next year – to match what men earned the previous year. This gap is even wider for Indigenous and racialized women, LGBTQ women, and women with disabilities. 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the @equalpaycoalition, a powerful collective that has advanced economic equality for decades. We are proud to be founding and active members of the Coalition 💙 Today, alongside the Coalition and community partners, we gathered in downtown Toronto to rally for adequate funding for vital public services – with a particular focus on child care – that meet community needs and help close the gender pay gap. ✍️Join the Equal Pay Coalition in sending a letter to Premier Ford and the Provincial government demanding that they deliver on their commitment to build a child care system that gives child care workers decent pay and benefits and to close the gender pay gap through the link in our bio. This National Equal Pay Day get to know the gender pay gap - the average difference in earnings between men and women. The pay gap is the result of outdated assumptions about women’s value and capabilities, and who’s “allowed” to do what jobs. Find out more at the link in our bio. 🧡 #equalpayday #equalpayday2025

Ladies, we are still not the problem. 👏👏👏 📽: @columbiaigp . . . #EqualPayDay #PayGap #Caregiving #ChildCare #Motherhood #Moms #Mother #PayEquity #GenderEquity #GenderEquality

Heute ist Equal Pay Day.

Today is National Equal Pay Day. The gender pay disparity is nothing new and obviously not specific to medicine, it’s pervasive in every field. Male nurses make an average of $7300-$14,000 more than women as RNs (depending on the study). This gap is larger for BIPOC women and for pediatric nurses and this is despite the fact that women make up 87% of the overall nursing profession. $27,273.89 That’s the difference in pay between female and male ophthalmologists in their first year of clinical practice as published in the journal of Ophthalmology. And yes, they controlled for number of work days, clinic days and OR days separately. Because that’s usually what people point out first - ‘women work less than men because of family obligations, so of course, they earn less’. Nope. They also controlled for demographic, educational and practice type variables. Female anesthesiologists make $32,600 less than their male counterparts. Again, accounting for age, hours worked, geographic location, practice type, region and position. I’ve personally never experienced this gap. My husband and I own our eye clinic and I pay myself the same as my husband (adjusting for my clinic days). Prior to moving to Hawaii 16 years ago, I was employed by Boston Children’s Hospital as faculty, and they were quite strict about ensuring there were no disparities in salaries between men and women. But this issue has to be addressed, because what I’ve experienced is, unfortunately, not standard. Is there a gender pay gap in your field? And do you know what it is? . . . #genderpaygap #equalpayday #femalesurgeon #womeninmedicine #amwa #womensupportingwomen #womenempowerment Sources: Ophthalmology. 2021 Jul;128(7):971-980. doi: 10.1016/j.ophtha.2020.11.022 Anesthesia & Analgesia 133(4):p 1009-1018, October 2021. | DOI: 10.1213/ANE.0000000000005676

The gender pay gap is widening. And it gets worse as women get older. On average, women make about $0.80 for every dollar a man makes, but women over 40 make only around $0.70 per dollar. Why is this happening and how do we fix it? #genderequality #genderpaygap
