Friday Fondant Hacks! I don't mean to toot my own horn but I definitely know my way around a roll of fondant. I know it can seem tricky at first so here are some of my favorite tips for ensuring you get the smoothest finish on your cakes 👇🏽 1. Use vegetable shortening to keep the fondant from sticking to your hands 2. Coat the table with icing sugar to make rolling easier 3. Use a pin to pop any air bubbles 4. Use a french rolling pin or any rolling pin that doesn't spin to pick up your fondant 5. Stretch out any folds in your fondant and gently press into the cake 6. Use to bench scrapers together for sharper edges 7. Nudge the fondant against the bottom of the cake before cutting off the excess with the tip of the blade. MARBLE FONDANT TECHNIQUE! This is an old video from a few years back. Such a great technique! Also, I’m actually walking my dog while doing the voiceover. If you go back through my old videos, you’ll notice that I used to do a lot of my voiceovers while walking Basil. I stopped doing this for a couple of reasons. 1: the sound quality sucked! Wind and other noises would interfere with my VO. 2: I found that I wasn’t being very present on my walks. I was too busy concentrating on my phone and recording my voiceover that I didn’t switch off from work and just enjoy the walk. So I went back to recording indoors! Smooth with a cake smoother – Use a flat cake smoother to smooth the top and sides of the cake, removing any air bubbles. Create sharp edges – Place a second smoother at a 90-degree angle to the sides, pressing gently to form clean, sharp edges. Trim excess fondant – Carefully trim the excess fondant at the base of the cake for a neat finish. Final touch – Use your smoothers to refine the edges and ensure a flawless look! That’s it!
