The trajectory of my life was changed completely because someone looked past my trauma and saw that my behaviors were telling a story. Today the trajectory of my sons life is changed because of the decision my family made to adopt my brother and me. ❤️ Adoption from foster care isn’t the ultimate solution to the societal crisis that is child welfare - but it’s a part of changing the trajectory for the next generation. Invest in family 🫶🏽 can look different for everyone because foster and adoptive families need your support and youth who age out need community. I’m the social media manager for America’s Kids Belong. One of my main jobs is recruiting for kids we’ve filmed in our I Belong Project TM. These videos we produce and share aim to shine a light on the unseen kids in foster care waiting for adoption. Because of our partnership with local child welfare we’re able to do this. Once I recieve the videos my team & I create social media content to help share these kids’ stories. It’s never lost on me that I was once where they are: in foster care waiting for a family. I believe in this work and I’ve seen kids matched with adoptive families because of the social media recruitment my team and I have done. No one tells you this when you become a foster parent…but I will. ❤️Love isn’t always enough. Attachment takes time and sometimes it looks messy. 💔You will grieve regardless of the case’s outcome. Even when reunification is right. Even when adoption is possible. Love doesn’t cancel out loss in either scenario. 💛You’ll parent differently than your friends. Because trauma-informed care means connection over compliance, and that makes your approach different than most. 🖤You’re co-parenting with the government. And that system doesn’t always prioritize what’s best for the child, you’ll have to fight for it and you might lose. 💜You will never see the world the same way again. And that’s a good thing. It’ll break you open in important and impossible ways. 💙If you’re in it, I see you. If you’re considering it, ask questions.
