9 Japanese Geometric Patterns that Keiko chose to make a “Jacket”. This fabric can be used to make a Cushion and a Tapestry like yesterday’s post. It is extremely important to learn how to prepare the patterns on the fabric by yourself. At the same time, however, it is very time-consuming to do so. When we have a budget & ideas to make a big Sashiko item, we try to make a “Pattern Pre-printed Sashiko Fabric”. So far, we have made 3 pieces each year, 2019, 2020, and 2021. The fabric is the same Indigo Dye Cotton Fabric, the one we always use. The Ink is water-based, so it will be washed away in the process of Mizutoushi. Since some patterns can be challenging, I wouldn’t recommend it for the Sashiko beginner… but if one knows Unshin by watching our videos or taking Atsushi’s Class, this will be a Joyful project & very good practice to improve the skill. I share the name here in the Reel. If you are interested in the meaning behind them, please use the name to research that later. I usually leave the papers only in edge pieces. It seems that I was so focused on sewing hexies together that I forgot to remove quite a few templates. 😆 Once I remove the papers, I usually press them with a hot iron without steam.
