𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐘𝐂 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - 𝐈𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 | #30𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 (7/30) Day 7 - accessibility. For this map, I visualized how walkable New York City - Manhattan, is from each subway station using open GTFS data and Python. Using Pandana for network-based accessibility, I built color-graded isochrone maps for the accessibility range of every station in the NYC subway system, marking each point available within the same amount of time with the same color. Each frame in the animation adds 5 seconds of walk time, showing how accessible the surrounding area becomes as time increases. Such walkability maps, particularly useful for urban planning, quickly highlight accessibility gaps and redundancies as well as the spatial reach of public transit infrastructure.
