Arm’s length escort places you at ideal striking distance.

Arm’s length escort places you at ideal striking distance. We prioritize connection. Shoulder to shoulder, body to body. Close contact gives immediate feedback on tension, movement, and intent. You feel the hips turn, the body load, and the moment resistance begins. That information buys time to make decisions and transition directly to the back when control is needed. Escort to Rear Clinch. Positioning that gives you time, awareness, and control. #police #PoliceTraining #LawEnforcementTraining #OfficerSafety #useofforce

Control the hands. “The hands hurt us.” We say it, now train it. Outside arm control limits movement and shuts down resistance before it escalates. The cuffing moment is where most assaults happen, the line between freedom and restraint. I prefer hinge cuffs. Less wrist movement, more structural control, better tension management under pressure. Two officers. Outside arm control. Double-cuff position. Control the hands. Control the outcome. #greysectortraining #officersafety #lawenforcementtraining #useofforce #fundamentals

Tactics and communication matter. De-escalation matters. But none of it works the way it should if the officer doesn’t feel confident when things turn physical. When officers have real hands-on skill and control, their confidence changes. Their decision-making slows down. Their communication improves. Their presence improves. Physical competence isn’t the opposite of de-escalation. It’s what makes it possible. #LawEnforcementTraining #PoliceTraining #OfficerSafety #UseOfForce #PoliceLeadership

NOTHING IS 100% No single technique works every time. Suspects don’t move the way training partners do, and no arrest goes exactly as planned. If you only have one option in your toolbox and it fails, you’re left scrambling. That’s when situations spiral and officers end up in dangerous positions. The key is having a skillset built on multiple options for taking a suspect into custody. If one technique stalls, you transition smoothly into another. If a suspect tucks an arm, changes posture, or resists differently than expected, you’ve got more than one path to control. That adaptability doesn’t just make you safer—it shortens the fight, reduces risk to the suspect, and creates better outcomes overall. Skills win fights, not check-box training. Build options, practice transitions, and prepare for the resistance you’ll actually face on the street. That’s the difference between struggling to control and confidently taking control.

This week’s Cadet training focused on one of the most important fundamentals in law enforcement — proper handcuffing techniques. Cadets learned that handcuffing isn’t just about control… it’s about officer safety, subject safety, communication, and professionalism under pressure. Every detail matters. Building confidence. Developing skills. Preparing the next generation to serve with integrity. #PoliceCadets #TrainingDay #FutureLeaders #OfficerSafety #LawEnforcementTraining

5 Objectives. One Box Drill. The main objective? Get officers to holster under stress. We don’t just train to draw fast. We train to think and transition under pressure. The 5 Objectives: 1️⃣ Process a man with a knife 🔪 2️⃣ Draw lethal 3️⃣ Suspect drops the knife but remains uncooperative 4️⃣ Officer recognizes deadly force is no longer justified and holsters 5️⃣ Immediate hands-on → takedown → low mount → win inside position (Disengage to less lethal is also a viable option.) This is decision-making under stress not just mechanics. Low mount / inside position works because it’s: ✔ Simple ✔ Retainable ✔ Repeatable @efcombatives Level 2

Flow drills are one of our favorite ways to train. Instead of isolating a single technique, flow drills connect multiple common situations together so officers can move from one position to the next just like they would in a real encounter. Both partners are working, both partners are learning, and everyone is getting meaningful reps. It allows officers to practice transitions, timing, and problem solving while reinforcing the techniques they already know. In just a few minutes, you can get dozens of reps across several real-world scenarios. More reps. More context. Better training. #policetraining #defensivetactics #policeinstructor #instructordevelopment #arrestandcontrol

In our minds, takedowns are smooth and beautiful, seemingly effortless (like this video). To achieve that level of performance, there is no substitute for hard work, dedication, and consistency in training. A Police Officer can be effective at takedowns without it necessarily looking “beautiful,” but it still requires regular practice of balance, coordination and strength. Muscular tension, dynamic resistance, and significant effort are all factors because in addition to getting a suspect to the ground, we are also moving the extra 20 lbs. of gear we regularly carry. We are also navigating environment and terrain that is unpredictable (more than a padded mat room). Consistent training is the only proven way for officers to perform with true confidence and excellence on a regular basis. Couple that with a solid strength and fitness regimen and that’s the recipe for success. One 4-8 hour DT block every 2 years (POST requirement) is not gonna cut it. ❌ Go train! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 #defensivetactics #policetraining #copswhotrain #policelife #policejiujitsu
