Rugby players, if you want to learn how to Olympic Lift, but you’re unsure where to start then start with the hang high pull! Yes Olympic lifting is complicated, but it can be taught pretty easily when broken down into variations and learn the patterns. The Hang High Pull teaches the key parts of a clean without overthinking: 🔥 Triple extension 🔥 Bar path 🔥 Timing & speed 🔥 Power from the hips—not the arms 👉 Coaching cues: 1️⃣Start from mid-thigh 2️⃣Hinge, don’t squat 3️⃣Jump hard & shrug 4️⃣Elbows high + bar close 5️⃣Let the bar float, don’t pull it up with your arms 💥 Why it works for rugby: Builds explosive hip drive for tackles, sprints & jumps Easier learn than throwing you straight into full cleans Less technical = more intent = more power Start here. Get faster, more powerful—and THEN progress to the clean. With any online clients or one-to-one clients that wants to learn how to Olympic Lift I will always start off with a hang high pull to learn the patter!

🤝TIPS: HIGH PULLS FOR MUSCLE-UPS MENU: ▪️use chalk - reduce slip and better secure your grip due to the “push” nature of the high pull ▪️use a box - establish your reach higher than the bar so you can better lock your grip especially for progressing to false grip ▪️thumb under grip - as someone who used to do thumb over bar exclusively, thumb under is a game changer as it’s much more secure, better build and transfer grip strength for more efficient/powerful pull ▪️shoulder width grip - if you had to climb over a wall: would you go wide grip or go narrower/shoulder width. Shoulder width dial in loading and releasing power from your lats + ideal elbow position for increased vertical ▪️knuckles over - spin grip/wrists around bar end with knuckles over or even in front of bar + squeeze tight (this will also counter any slight slip at start of rep) ▪️SL “kick start” - this will help establish making a diagonal line w/your body (hands, chest, hips, ankles) so your hips in front of shoulders + feet in front of hips. Heel “kick” forward + squeeze glutes + inhale (noticeable squeeze from grip on bar to lats as you “load” them) ▪️straight arm lat push down - kick start straight arms load lats and maintain body angle to push bar down + away from you, shoulders down + tight exhale + squeeze glutes as you “push,” elbows in front of you ▪️straight arm push down to high pull - straight arm to prime lat power, then high pull: bent elbows in front of body, come to brush sides, continue pull elbows back + push bar down. Elbows at 90 feel pull to push power, body still at slight diagonal ▪️muscle-up specific high pull - kick start, pull to push making a “half oval” or crescent shape bc you want to keep body rotating around bar close as possible to keep force directed up, below chest tap at top refers to keeping body close to bar at top for when you’re ready to get up and over into a muscle up! Hot take: High Pulls > Cleans Unless you’re an Olympic lifter, catching the bar doesn’t really matter In every other setting, the goal is simple: apply force bilaterally, vertically, and explosively Why High Pulls win: 1️⃣ Safer: no stress on wrists/shoulders when catching, and easy to “fail” (just drop it) 2️⃣ More forceful: you can go supramaximal, heavier than you could ever clean 3️⃣ Higher output: with no catch, the movement stays simple, letting the athlete focus purely on being explosive Shown here: a High Pull Complex (Power, High Hang, Low Hang)

How I learned to high pull! This was my personal experience and what really helped me develop explosiveness in my pull, allowing me to get as high as I’m showing here. #calisthenics #fitness #bodyweightfitness #highpullup

Hang High Pull or Clean High Pull from the Floor: do you know the difference? 💥 Hang High Pull = trap & upper-body explosion Clean High Pull = full-body power & athletic strength Train smarter and tag a friend who needs this tip! 👇 #LiveLeanTV #HighPull #CleanHighPull #TrapWorkout #PowerTraining #OlympicLifts #ExplosiveStrength #GymTips #StrengthTraining #BarbellWorkout

If you can’t do pull-ups yet, this is where I’d start. Build strength in this order → control first, assistance second, then full reps. No shortcuts. Just progressions that work. Save this and come back to it. 🤍

High Pulls. I think I can do this better but I was trying to minimize the kip and we had just climbed for 2 hours. I was so dead that I actually decided not to do a heavy pull session so we just messed around on the bar and did I taught @sethpierceclimbing how to use ab straps. Also I saw a 135lbs climber @zbent24 squeeze my hand gripper for over 200lbs which is the strongest bw to grip strength ratio I’ve seen in person. Either way, good sesh all around. #fitness #climbing #ninjawarrior #workout #pullups #crossfit #athlete #motivation #gymmotivation #calisthenics

Good KB high pulls Vs bad KB high pulls ❌ DEAD HIPS The bottom of this rep should look exactly like a swing. If your hips don’t load and snap, you’re not doing a high pull you’re just yanking a kettlebell with your arms. ✅ FIX IT Treat the base of the movement like a swing. Hinge back. Load the hamstrings. Snap the hips hard and let the bell float. Then pull, leading with the elbows and then guide the bells back down into the swing. #kettlebell #training #form #tips #highpull
