Hydrangea Care Here are some tips for reviving your hydrangeas: 1. Pour boiling water into a clean ceramic vase. 2. Cut the hydrangea stems at a 45-degree angle and place them in the vase. 3. Remove any excess leaves. After an hour or so, your hydrangeas should begin to recover.

Hydrangea 101 😘 First things first, when shopping for hydrangeas I always feel the tops of them, if the flowers feel lip or too squishy I pass on them! This means they are already not properly hydrated and I will be reviving them right away. You are looking for firm crisp flowers! Fill your vase with HOT water!!! There are a lot of different tricks with hydrangeas but these have worked best for me! The hot water acts almost as a cauterization of the stem helping them to drink of the water without leaking any of the good stuff! Always add a splash of hydrogen peroxide which keeps your vase bacteria free and acts almost like flower food! Now the hardest part…. Losing those beautiful leaves, this is my least favorite part because they are so dang gorgeous (I leave a few because I can’t help myself 😂) this helps the water go straight to the flower, leaves like to drink all that water before it can get to the bloom! Now my favorite part and maybe most controversial I cut my stems on a diagonal then immediately take my little hammer and smash the ends! A flair for the dramatic know but this helps the water really get into the stem and it’s a great aggression reliever 😂 you can also cut a slice down the middle or your stem but it’s not as fun! Place in the hot water and enjoy! Flowers looking a bit droopy and sad after a hot day? Try this hot water method to make them perk back up. Cut the stems 2-3cm and place in boiling water for 20seconds before returning to room temp water. After 20-30min they should start to spring back to life and look fresh again.

Save this for later - all my tips for happy and healthy hydrangeas. Potted Hydrangeas: • Bigger pots = happier plants. • Water daily in summer. • Morning sun + afternoon shade works best. In Ground Hydrangeas: • Sun + shade combo works best. • Water 3x/week in summer and occasionally in winter. • Leaves falling in winter? Totally normal. • Deadhead old flowers to boost growth. In a Vase: • Change water daily & snip stems every 2 days. • Keep in a cool spot for longer-lasting blooms. Colour Tips: • Blue = acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5). • Pink = raise the pH. • White can’t be amended however will often show tinges of pink or green depending on their blooming time. Early in the season they are white. Middle are pink.
