Iris care after blooming ⬇️ If you're growing bearded iris (Iris germanica), you might be wondering when it's safe to deadhead or cut them back. In order to help them build up energy for next year's beautiful blooms, you should wait to cut them all the way back. We love our bearded iris, which are all from @edenbrothers, and we want to see tons of blooms year after year. So, similar to tulips, daffodils, and other spring-flowering bulbs, once the iris flower blooms have withered, we cut the stems back but "leave the leaves." Watch as Sean shows you where to make your cuts. ➡️ If you want to plant new Bearded iris this fall, watch our video we made for @edenbrothers on their YouTube channel or at this link: https://youtu.be/ZLUV-UgLQtw Save 20% off your entire order with our exclusive code: SpokenGarden2025 😀 Featured iris: 🌿 Concertina #beardediris #irisbulbs #floweringbulbs #gardentips #growingflowers #plantsandflowers #gardenyoutubers #spokengarden

Here’s how to plant your Iris bulbs! 👩🌾 🪴 If planting in a pot, Iris Reticulata is a dwarf variety, meaning you really only need a small pot! But if you’re going for a lot of blooms, we’d recommend a wide, bowl-shaped pot 📏 Plant your bulbs pointy end up, 2-3 times the depth of the bulb (usually about 10cm) 🌱 Top your bulbs with more compost and give it some water. After the first watering, you shouldn’t need to water your bulbs for the rest of the year - the damp weather will handle that! #gardeningtips #gardeninspiration #springgarden #plantcaretips #gardentutorials #garden #gardening

SNAP SNAP ✂️ Many gardeners shy away from dividing plants, but I promise—your bearded irises will reward you with beautiful blooms come spring! It’s much easier than it sounds and you get FREE PLANTS! When dividing, large rhizomes can be snapped or cut apart and planted individually. Smaller rhizomes can stay attached to the main (mother) rhizome and be planted out together in small clumps. More coming soon on how, when, and why we divide! 🌱 @le_sac__ x @outbackgardens #iris #beardediris #hardyplants #dividingirises #australiangardens

Happy Monday everyone! Here's some beautiful clumps of iris (and other pretties too) at @joanns.iris.garden. She is such an inspiration to me and helped me have the courage to do some digging and dividing of my own so I can offer some of the cultivars I carry for others to have in their gardens. I'm so thankful for those of you who have supported me and cannot wait to see your new iris bloom in 2026! I still have a ton left and would love to find homes for them. Please send me a direct message if you would love some new beauties for your garden. What I have is also in my Iris4sale highlight. 😁 Video taken during my peak bloom visit in May!

After flowering last spring we tipped out this pot full of bulbs at the back of the border and replanted the bulbs elsewhere in the garden, although we must have missed a few dwarf irises! Bulbs can be moved if they pop up in the wrong place, as long as you’re careful not to damage the bulbs and to hold as much soil as possible around the roots while you do so. These irises now have a position at the front of the order where they can be seen 🌱✨ . . . #gardeningtips #gardenadvice #dwarfiris #iris #transplanting

How do I plant an Iris? This is true for Bearded Irises some other irises can be planted deeper. Bearded Irises like to have their rhizome near the surface which is the same for peonies. It is very easy to split Irises. If you find you have a multitude of them and they aren’t blooming as much, then splitting and dividing them may be your answer. #irises #beardediris #garden #flowers #planting #tipsandtricks

Late summer early fall is a great time to divide Iris. You can also transplant this time of year. They want at least six hours of sunlight and well drained soil. They don’t like to be planted very deeply. lots of people‘s iris after five years or so stop blooming. It’s a good idea to divide them to keep the roots from getting too tight which prevents blooming. (Part 1)The bearded iris patch is in its full glory and I wanted to show you all of the amazing varieties we’re growing. I pre apologize for how long this video is and because of the length I can’t get captions to load. Our original stock came from @schreinersgardens and you can read more about each one and see pictures in the Floret Library (link in profile). The metal arches were designed by @jandidesign and @beckycrowley_ and then fabricated by @metalistics and many of the roses climbing them came from @roguevalleyroses. #ayearinflowers

Two Irises, One Garden – Do You Know the Difference? 💜🌿 Let’s talk Iris sibirica vs Iris germanica – two stunning perennials with very different growing habits and aesthetic roles. 🟣 Iris germanica (Bearded Iris): • Known for its bold, ruffled blooms and iconic ‘beard’ on the falls • Prefers free-draining soil and full sun • Perfect for formal borders and statement planting • Enjoys a summer dry spell – avoid overwatering after flowering 🔵 Iris sibirica (Siberian Iris): • Slender, elegant flowers with grass-like foliage • Tolerates heavier soils and even damp conditions • Great for naturalistic planting and cottage gardens • More disease-resistant and low-maintenance Both are brilliant for pollinators and bring incredible structure and colour to the late spring garden. #IrisSibirica #IrisGermanica #PerennialPlants #GardenInspiration #EnglishGardenStyle #CutFlowerGarden #PollinatorFriendly #BeardedIris #SiberianIris #FlowerContrast #GardenEducation #SpringPerennials #FlorianBotanicalTips
