You know one of my favorite things about teaching knitting classes is that I often learn new tricks myself! Earlier this month while teaching two color thorn stitch a student showed me this no slip SSK decrease and now I’m sharing a simplified version of it with you! To do this you will insert the needle into the first stitch as if to knit, then insert the needle into the second stitch through the back loop, then simply knit them together and let them off the needle. It’s definitely a winner for me and is tidier than my traditional SSK for this pattern. EDIT: this is a simplified no slip SSK that works great for mosaics. It doesn’t require the additional steps of a traditional K2TOG-L/No slip SSK so it’s very fast for this type of two color work. #knitting #knit #handknit #thistlethorncowl #mosaicknitting

Lyn asked me to show how to make an SSK, i.e. a left-leaning decrease. #Knitting 2 stitches together produces a right-leaning decrease, so if you want to have symmetrical decreases, e.g. on either side of an armhole or sleeve cap, you will need to knit 2 together on one side and make an SSK on the other 🧶

K2tog and SSK, why do you need to know both? Because they lean in different directions! K2tog leans to the right and SSK leans to the left. So if you want a pretty diagonal line of decreases, you have to use the right one 😘 Save this video to your collection to reference later 💕

💫SSK Decrease in Knitting Today I’m showing you how to do an SSK decrease – a simple technique that creates a neat left-leaning stitch. 1. Insert your right needle into the first stitch on the left needle as if to knit. 2. Simply slip this stitch onto the right needle without knitting it. 3. Do the same with the second stitch. 4. Return both stitches to the left needle. 5. Now insert your right needle into the back loops of these two stitches and knit them together through the back loop. That’s it! You now have a finished SSK decrease on your right needle – clean and leaning to the left. 💫Diminution SSK au tricot Aujourd’hui, je vous montre comment faire une diminution SSK – une technique simple qui crée une maille inclinée proprement vers la gauche. 1. Insérez l’aiguille droite dans la première maille de l’aiguille gauche comme pour la tricoter. 2. Glissez simplement cette maille sur l’aiguille droite sans la tricoter. 3. 💗 SSK! 💗 This is my favorite way to do this stitch! Slip one knitwise and then one purlwise. I like it because it lays flatter and look more like a K2tog. Share this with a friend who needs to see it!

when doing a left leaning decrease, I prefer using the k2tog-L as I find it looks a bit neater than the standard SSK. it looks a little more complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it’s super easy! Instructions: Slip one stitch knit-wise. Slip one stitch purl-wise. Insert your left needle into these 2 sts purl-wise. Knit the 2 sts together. As you slip the stitch off your needles, use your left needle to gently tug on the second stitch (the one that was slipped purl-wise). that’s it! It can be used anywhere that calls for a SSK or left leaning decrease. Let me know if you try it out!
