Langar waali Daal, This one is special😊 Gurudwaras, Temples & religious institutions have something special about the food. Any Such Special meal that you had ?? I recently had the opportunity to witness a Sikh wedding & the meal after was soulful. It was simple and hearty. Having lived in Delhi for about 9 years, got a chance to visit lots of Gurudwaras and eat this. This is just my attempt to make something similar and if you have never tried it - YOU ARE MISSING OUT ! 1 cup Black Urad Dal 1/2 cup Chana Dal 4 to 5 cups Water Salt 1/2 tsp Hald 1/2 tsp Chilli Powder 1 Tej Patta 3 to 4 cloves of Garlic 1 chilli 1 tsp Ginger For Tadka 1 tbsp Ghee 3 to 4 cloves Garlic 1 tsp Ginger 2 Chillies 1 Medium Onion 1 Tomato 1 tsp Jeera Haldi , Chilli Powder & Coriander Seed Powder Some Fresh Coriander And some more ghee on top 🌟 Vishesh tippani - Just whisk the dal a bit to mash it up a little. “Made this Langar wali daal today, just the way my Chet puter loves it! 💛 It’s not the same as Gurudwara daal (nothing can match those Keertan vibes), but this home-style version is full of love and flavor. Recipe as follows- Ingredients: • For Dal: • 1 cup chana dal • 1/2 cup black split husked dal • 1 tsp turmeric • Salt to taste • Water • For Tadka: • 1/2 cup butter • 2 red onions, finely chopped • 2 tsp garlic, minced • 1 tsp ginger, minced • 1–2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional) • 1 tsp coriander powder • 1 tsp red chili powder • 1/2 tsp ground cumin • Cilantro (fresh coriander) for garnish Steps: 1. Cook Dal: • In a pressure cooker, add chana dal, black dal, turmeric, salt, and water. • Cook until the dals are soft. 2. Prepare Tadka: • Heat butter in a pan. • Add onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until golden. • Stir in coriander powder, red chili powder, and ground cumin. Cook for 1 minute. 3. Combine: • Pour the tadka over the cooked dal and mix gently. 4. Garnish: • Top with fresh cilantro. Serve: top with butter or ghee if you like . Enjoy hot with chapati or rice! Langar Wali Dal (Serves 2-3) This dal needs no introduction it’s everybody’s favourite. Very simple recipe all you need is lots of love to make it & it will taste similar to the langar wali dal. Method: -Soak 1cup black urad dal+1/4cup rajma+1/4cup chana dal overnight. -Wash everything well 3-4times. -Now add it to a pressure cooker along with salt, 1 bay leaf, 1 small stick cinnamon, 1 big cardamom, 1 small pc ginger & 1 medium sized onion roughly chopped. -Pressure cook to 1 whistle on high flame then 10min on simmer. -Now let the cooker naturally depressurise, open the lid & slight mash the dal. -In the same cooker, take some oil, add 1/2tsp cumin & 1tsp full ginger garlic paste. -Mix everything well till the raw smell goes. -Add the dry spice mix- 1/2tsp turmeric, 1tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder, 1tsp coriander powder, 1/2tsp any garam masala & salt. Mix well n cook for 30sec. -Now add tomato puree of 2 tomatoes(add a pinch of sugar) -Now cook the masala well till oil separates. -Add the cooked dal, add water as per the consistency you like. Mix everything well. -Pressure cook for 1 whistle or cook on low flame for 10min. -Finally add roasted Kasturi methi & 1tsp fresh cream. Waise toh the taste and energy can never be as good as it's in the Gurudwara but if you're missing Langar this year - this will help. I still fondly remember that when I asked one of the cooks at Golden Temple "How do you cook so much food consistently, what we cook in a month you probably cook in a day". He told me *Humara parivaar kaafi bada hai apka abhi chota hai* That made me realise the spirit with which people cook there - they cook for each person who eats the langar, as family! . . Langar wali dal . 1/2 cup Urad chilka, washed & soaked 1/4 cup Chana dal, washed and soaked 1/2 inch Ginger, crushed 1/4 tsp Haldi powder Salt to taste Water as required Pressure cook till 3 whistles . 1 1/2 tbsp Ghee 1 tsp Jeera 1 tbsp Garlic, chopped Sauté till translucent 2 Onions, diced Mix well Salt to taste 1 Green chili, chopped 1/2 inch Ginger, chopped Sauté well Look at that 🤌🏻✨ 3 Tomatoes, diced 1 tsp Red chili powder 1 tsp Coriander powder Mix well Cook till everything’s soft! . Add the cooked dal Mix well & mash it too Cover & cook for 10 mins Look at that 🤌🏻🤤 . A handful of fresh coriander, chopped . Serve hot Top it off with some ghee . Happy Gurupurab ✨
