If you’re not familiar with lost wax casting here are some interesting facts about this incredible technique: 🕯️Lost wax casting captures ALL the details. This means it’s perfect for dog nose print jewellery. Our wax is user friendly, safe as it doesn’t need to be overly warm and it’s an exact print of your dog’s nose. 🕯️We shape each wax piece and build the jewellery in the same material, ensuring that each piece has “seamless” effect. 🕯️Wax is burned away during the casting process. Waxes are attached to a wax “tree” and encased in a plaster “investment”. When heated, the wax melts and drains out, leaving a perfect space where the wax once sat. Metal is then cast into that void, cooled, and the investment is broken away to reveal the jewellery! 🕯️The oldest lost wax objects were found in Indus Valley Civilisation and Mesopotamia around 3500BC. 🕯️The fundamentals haven’t changed but technology has made this process more efficient. Just push sheet wax on top of any texture you want! Works better on raised surfaces than recessed.

Setting this big beautiful aquamarine 🩵🩵 The wax part of lost wax jewellery is definitely where my passion lies, but the metal work is a necessary evil I use sand paper (in the form of a nail file here) to clean up the metal as polishing compound is quite toxic and I don’t like touching it/washing it down the sink. I don’t like a mirror finish for my pieces so super fine sand paper works really well for me anyway as a finish 🫶🏻

The process of LOST WAX🤘🏼 While most of my pieces are completely hand forged from sheet & wire, I do enjoy sitting down and playing with wax every once in a while. With wax, the possibilities feel endless! Messed up? Just add more wax. There’s also something super therapeutic about carving… It’s always a nice break from my soldering station! So how does it work? Lost wax is just like it sounds… lost. After you finish carving your piece, a mold is made around it. That mold is then heated to extreme temperatures, melting the wax away and leaving behind a hollow space where your design was. Molten metal gets poured into that space and voilà!! Your wax carving is now metal. Then comes lots of cleanup and polishing… but you get the idea!
